Combining journeymen and inducements to get more than 11 men
Hi guys
I played a game last night where my opponent, with a lower TV than mine and 2mngs out of 11 players in total.
That means that he started the game with 2 journeymen.
But then the resulting TV was still a lower than mine, so he could afford (and bought) an extra player for this game only with his inducements.
So he had 12 players for the game.
I thought the spirit of journeymen was to bring a team to 11 people when it could not put together enough people for a game. But here, journeymen ended up helping him get 12 players (to oversimplify things...).
What do you guys think?
Cheers,
Justin

well if he had had 11 players on his roster available and his TV still allowed him to gain a 12th through inducements would you asking?
the journeymen allowed him to get to 11, allbeit 2 with Loner
the inducements allowed him a 12th man but he could just as well have taken a different inducement
I think it is not only fair but necessary to have this balance/choice

JJB, you're right that the point of Journeymen is to bring a crippled team back up to a minimum 11 players. Their TV still counts towards the overall team total, so it's not as though he's receiving players for free.
As you noted, the resulting TV was still low enough to allow a Mercenary/Star Player to be induced, which is within the confines of the inducement rules. Even if your opponent had a standard 11-man team with normal 0-16s as opposed to J'men, he'd still induce the 12th man -- seems fair to me. It keeps his team active and competitive, which should be the underlying goal of any league/campaign.
Don't forget: the Journeymen have Loner and the Mercenary or Star Player that was induced to be the 12th player also has Loner. I'm sure your opponent will enjoy those 4+ TRR rolls to no end...

Mmm, do you mean he bought a permanent member for his team with his inducements? If so, he's not allowed to do that as inducement money to hire players is only for Mercs and Stars.
Journeymen were bought in to stop teams having to play with less that 11, if the TR was big enough for him to induce an extra player, then that is fine as previously.
