Nope, I mean forget the Golems period.
Under LRB4, they were good players (Stand Firm) - under LRB5 they don't do anything special to justify the extra cost.
They are your only source for ST 4. I can't imagine a successful Necro team without it. If you find one, lmk.
Lots of team manage quite well without ST4. I don't think that's a good argument.

And you don't find that many successful Necro teams at the moment full stop, which is why they're getting a boost.

Running a Flesh Golem free team in a short league or tournie is a very TV efficient line-up. And Necro have some tasty stars.

True, lots of teams do well without ST4, but Necro isn't one of them. And ST3 teams would not turn down ST4 if given the upgrade.

Think of the Flesh Golem this way. If you upgraded a zombie to be a Flesh Golem, you'd need +1AV and +1ST, Thick Skull and Stand Firm. Is all of that worth 70,000 more? I think so. It's like buying +1ST and +1Av and getting TS and SF for free. That's not bad.

If you use Golems as roadblocks, rather than skilled players you won't be disappointed.

You need the 2 wolves. In fact I you always start necro with the 6 AG 3 players in a league. You will need them more than the golems

Yeah, I have to say that this is canon....

You have two, standard, mediocre pieces (vis-a-vis other "blitzers") and that is your two wights....

You have two awesome pieces: the Werewolves (and they'r still quirky as hell....)

The Golems are overpriced and a mess... still having critical uses... but you have to work hard with them....

Ghouls are fragile... period... but have above avg speed....

Zombies are semi-durable, overpriced speed bumps... (bless their undead hearts!)....

Give up your Were's and you're in the stew....

Besides, how you gonna buy them later...? They're damned expensive....
*******************************

I started this season against a 1.4 mil Chaos team and a pair of starting Human teams (the Dwarf and D.Elf teams I haven't played yet) who all had 2-3 games under their belts with the following team:

5 zombies
2 FGs (using the lowered FG cost, per the Commish)
2 Wights
2 Weres
2 Rerolls
2 FF
20k banked

Bad winnings rolls had me NOT getting a ghoul till after game two... but I now have both ghouls after game 3....

I lost 0-1 as a 270k underdog to the massively buffed Chaos team; tied a fiesty Human team 2-2 and beat a second Human team today (as a 70k underdog) 2-0....

Not tooooo bad, methinks....

Check out my NecroTacticum page for reasonable analysis of players available....

Set up properly, your Weres should get two 2d blocks against any opposing 3st player and the increased chances for Cas spp....

I can't see doing without them....

See, I luv the idea of Flesh Golems in a skilly tournament. In a League, I agree it's better to build around other players and work your way into a Flesh Golem, but in a res tourney the Ghoul is really something, and when you're allowed to put skills on anyone you want, the Flesh Golem gets a lot better.

So at 1.1M in a tourney, I would be strongly tempted to take two Flesh Golems, especially if it were a skill-heavy tourney. Those "1.25M with skills for 20k" tourneys are really kind to Flesh Golems. Another factor is the paucity of S advances and doubles.

1.1M tourney
2 Weres
2 Golems
2 Ghouls
1 Wight
5 Zombies
3 RR

1.1M short league or structured season (fewer than 20 games)
2 Weres
1 Golem
2 Ghouls
1 Wight
6 Zombies
4 RR

1.1M perpetual league
2 Weres
2 Ghouls
2 Wights
8 Zombies
3 RR
1 FF

Cross your fingers. 2RR is tough with that roster.

yeah I used that roster, problem for the golems and weres was lack of block. as they advance and get block 2rrs is plenty.
using lrb5b you can drop the golems for ghouls to gain another RR but this leaves you without the str4 players.
not sure if thats preferable or not, I am currently experimenting with differant necro set ups.
