I'm still quite new to the game: I know the basic rules, but the questions really do start coming up when you realise how many ways there are to combine certain rules and skills. You could make up a house rule to cover a certain situation, but to know how, and more so why so, others have solved the problem you do have to ask. And I have since I found this forum thought that this is the place to ask. Most of the time I do try to find if the question has been answered before (having subjects with a real meaning really helps a lot here), but you are right on asking is easier than looking, and it also provides interaction. A way players can communicate internationally. Therefore every now and then someone, perhaps it's me the next time, asks a question answered at some point and if this ticks you off I recommend not to reply at all if you are only going to write something in the lines of using the search. Hey, if no one answers it doesn't take long to no one to ask and the problem is solved.

I wholeheartedly agree!! talk about posting just for the sake of getting a post...

...also... problem is that the rules tend to get changed a lot - therefore you can hardly blame anyone their need to ask basic rulez questions. If you don´t like - then plz - ignore it... it´s not like you HAVE to read everything and COVER everything - is it?!

... there should be plenty of space for all of us... :?:

I'm not saying don't ask, I'm saying try not to ask something that's been answered 5 times already and is easily accessible with a modicum of effort. For my part, I'll usually post a link to the relevent thread(s), I'd rather suffer a bit of irritation than ignore somebody completely. That's not the way to go, but it's still 'spam' that laziness or 'looking for interaction' doesn't excuse. After all, 'use the bloody search engine' is interaction, is it not? :P
I also try (where I notice) to edit thread titles that are poorly worded/ambigious in an attempt to make the search facility easier to use.
I think I'll post a 'sticky' in newbies asking people to make more use of the search engine.

Good idea :D

I do think that a simple search would be much better than a hasty post to find answers to a question. A heck of a lot has been covered since TBB started and If a new member has a rules query they'll find an answer immediatly by looking rather than posting. But hey some people post for the hell of it.

You know what I mean!
Yep I know what you mean, so that's why a sticky should be placed in newbies section as DW suggested, that tells everybody how to do it.

Sorry that I had to write something back to your first thread, just found it a little too much when I first read it.

I'm quite amazed to see whath reactions my questions rose. I understand that there are people here who know all the rules by heart. The thing was we NEVER played AV roll on GFI with the people i play with. i wanted to know if it was some official stuff or if it was house rule. that's it.

maybe i should have been more precise in my question. But if it bothers some people here to answer. Fine. Don't answer then. I've never seen that kind of reaction for a guy who asks what first skill to take for an elf lineman. I guess it must seem quite basicall for the big gurus here though. Maybe you should rename that part of TBB, Rules Queries for people who've read the rules 1024 times and found something printed in very ittle that nobody's seen before.

Maybe a simple message saying look in the archive would have been enough. Maybe that there aren't so many people playing BB and it's not the way to involve some more...

Good point and I do agree with you, but it would be nice that if you first searched and then posted.

Actually I don't care how many times a question pops up, sometimes it brings something new with it, and if I don't want to answer then I just don't answer.
But some people don't like it and everybody should have a good time in here.

Nothing personal, more of a culmination of repeated questions by different people. Sooner or later this was gonna come up, it just happened to be this thread. It could just as easily been the last one or the next one of this type. It's just a fact that people start drifting away from message boards that keep going in circles. There's a danger that some of our longer registered members will start logging in and find the majority of posts re-covering old ground. That'd be a crying shame, particularly if it's because of people just being too lazy to run a search and reference the information already present. So this is why I cannot agree with the 'just ignore it, problem solved' arguement. A little bit of effort makes this a better place for everybody.

Anyway, 'sticky' post is up in Newbies now, hopefully this should eliminate some of the repetition.

Sorry guys:

/french off

So now, learn French for non french speakers :)

LF: this is two good reasons!! i am sure :)

Do we lock the thread?

As the other half of TBB biggest posters, let me put it this way.

If you think that the responses you received where disrespective that's probably true. However, not using the search engine before you post is just as disrespective to the senior members of the board.

If someone posted, I've read the posts in x thread on this topic and I still have a question which is X ... folks like DW and I will be more than happy to respond quickly and friendly. At the same time, don't get upset if we aren't the kindest when you ask the 20th iteration of the exact same question. One of DW and I's jobs as moderators is to keep the boards clean. You'd be a lot more upset if we deleted your question post as irrelevant since its been answered 19 times already and we are trying to help keep TBB running smoothly by deleting it.

All DW was asking for was some politie respect by all newbies searching before asking. Bottom line ... that's not too much ask. Heck, I'm a senior member and I still search before I post to avoid cluttering the board.

Just ask me: mojosbag@hotmail.com or post to the board and ignore the almighties....

Hell, no one should have to come off their thrones at Mount Olympus to be bothered with promoting this game and answering questions for a new player

I may get it wrong, but I'll take the time to humbly consider, research and answer....

'Course ya' could just end run all the egos and ask the creators: fanatic@games-workshop.co.uk they've been very civil and kind and never condescending....

Mojo,

What they are saying is that if you take a look, you'll see that the majority of the members on this board don't post more than 50 times.
Thse of us who choose to congregate here consider this our board and we don't wish to hang around and answer the same questions all day. Most of us have limited time and would rather spendit discussing current events.
Look at it this way. If everybody posted the same questions over and over us "Almighties" would get bored and wouldn't post here; then who's gonna answer the questions?

Like it or not, those of us who call this place home control the etiquette of the board and we are asking nicely that noobs keep redundancy to a minimum.

Thanks.
