Hall of Heroes

Post by generaljason »

As of right now the only allowable formats for Hall of Heroes are 40K, Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Lord of the Rings. I would like to see the Hall of Heroes format extended to Blood Bowl as well so clubs could start organizing 1-day tourneys to participate in this yearly event.

The Community Manager of GW Canada said that he would bring it up the next they restart Hall of Heroes for the year, but I imagine they'd only incorporate the format if the interest within the BB community was there.

Who would like to see Blood Bowl included within Hall of Heroes?

Sorry guys, but I always postulated that Hall of Heores was a GW world wide contest, but when I saw TuernRedvenom and Darkson's posts, I did a little surfing of the other GW global homepages and discovered that Hall of Heores is just in Canada.

Anyway, it's just another tournament format that GW Canada runs that crowns an overall winner every year for each of the core games, namely 40K, WFB and LoTR. These winners are featured in White Dwarf magazine, get bragging rights, as well as a conflict ticket, army booklet, about $80 worth a figs, ect. Details are found here:

http://ca.games-workshop.com/CommunityN ... ty_HOH.htm

If your club is a member of the GCN, GW Canada gives you trophies to host these events. Usually they are 1-day tourneys that are pretty easy to run and could be hosted regularly. I know Blood Bowl has the NAF, but Hall of Heroes is fun Canada wide because it can build up fun rivalrys between the individual gaming clubs across the country.

Anyway, I figured it'd be fun to see this format extended to Blood Bowl as well given that's pretty much all I play and would give me an excuse to run 1-day tournaments like the one we plan on running this December more often.

If you're not a resident of Canada, but would liek to see the Hall of Heroes format come to your country - get on these guys, and by that I mean GW. But for now, please vote yes on my poll. :D Just gives me a little more credence and teeth for when I bug GW Canada to include this format come March-April. Please and thank you.

I doubt GW would do this, as it would mean them having to give a damn about Blood Bowl.

I agree Simon that I'm probably wasting my time trying to get GW in include Blood Bowl into Hall of Heroes, but I'm going to try anyway. Blood Bowl needs to register somewhere.

If it's a regular feature on their tournament page, at least on the Canadian site, then the other gamers who play the core games like 40K, LoTR and WFB will be forced to see the words "Blood" and "Bowl" everytime they check out their own scores with the other game systems. More importantly though, GW will see high HoH scores coming out of Vancouver and Calgary and might actually see Blood Bowl as a viable community.

The GCN is run separately from GW, and exists in the UK.

I thought that the GCN was under GW's umbrella? At least when I looked at getting our club GCN-registered I had to go through GW.

The GCN is still under GW's umbrella as far as final say and club approval and all that, but it's still suppose to operate freely and independently from GW. It's a way of privatizing without privatizing.

I took a look at the Hall of Heroes system. It looks like the more tournaments you play in, the higher your rankings can go. The organizers submit the games and they get added to the rankings.

Seems to me the sure way to win the top spot in your game of choice would be to go on welfare and then run your own tournaments all the time. That would probably get you the top standing in your game of choice and probably a good one in the overall ranking as well. But that would be totally ridiculous. :o

Since a tournament needs to be recognised by the GCN, I think they'd catch onto that pretty quickly.

Yeah, you would need some sort of in with a GCN organizer or something. I'm only joking though. No one would actually do something like that-- I hope.
