The blurb I quoted was new in LRB 5.0. I wanted to explain how the Undead team when from Skeletons and Mummies in 2nd edition to the team that it was in 3rd edition. Same team but very different positionals allowed.
So I re-wrote the history of the team to explain Ghouls (and in another year note Zombies) adding on the team roster as Tomolandry experimented with different options for his team.

Think of them as being a type of Ape or Gorrilla that eats flesh. That is there relationship to Humans.
Werewolfs are also not Undead.

It doesn't. They just hang around graves and so have time for the odd frappacino with the local Necromancer. And, y'know, one thing led to another and they ended up really digging each other.datalorex wrote:I don't get it. Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Not sure on that one-they've got regen in BB and in mythology, can only be killed by a silver bullet/weapon? But then what is something that is undead-something that has died, but has come back "to life"? I'm not sure if werewolves die before coming back?Werewolfs are also not Undead
Ulfwerners on the other hand, definitely aren't undead, which is a bit of a confusion...

Perhaps a "Big Guy" is the answer?...(yeah, I know... but I'm bored and thought... hmmmm) I saw these minis during my wanderings and thought they'd fit the whole Necro/Undead theme:
Grave Horror
Caretaker and Grave Golem
Then there's always Deth and Taxxis
Warning: G-string only on Ms. Taxxis!
I wouldn't mind having an Undead Troll to shore up my line of scrimmage...!

I don't know about anybody else but I imagine JJ like a giant post apocalyptic computer with AI that has gone batty, but it's worshiped by a bunch of tribal mutants who say stuff like "The Lord works in mysterious ways" to explain his erratic behavior.Darkson wrote:Necros got hit because the Undead team needed Zombies to go to 40K, and according to JJ it's to confusing to have the same player having different costs on different rosters.![]()
Just tell JJ where to stick his views on the intelligence of the average BB player, and move the Necro zombies back to 30K.
You work hard, polishing up a nice set of rules. Submit them into the slot on the side of this giant metal monstrosity. Lights blink, whirly sounds go, smoke comes out and the ground shakes a little...
...and boof! Out comes the rules only smeared and rewritten in crayon in some parts with corrections that read more like non-sequiturs than coherent rules.
"THE LORD HAS SPOKEN!!! ALL HAIL THE GREAT JJ!!"

My ideas get criticized because even though I have only played Blood Bowl for 20 years, I have only played a few games of LRB 5.
JJ doesn't play at all and it shows! And yet people sit around and wait for his word on official rules changes before they start their seasons?!

Either Zombies should be 30k or Skellies should be 40k and Necros and Undead should be given a boost (like access to an Apo in lieu of Regen roll, or a 50k Igor instead of APO who allows his own 4+ roll after Regen fails or isn't available).
Something does kind of need to be done to sex Necro up a bit, maybe up-tweak Undead marginally, and weaken Khemri a bit. It's not horrid or urgent, but everyone seems to acknowledge the problem and easy, moderate, testable fixes are out there, so why not?

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

While both the waiting and the waited on share in some collaborative blame, we are both products of societies that ascribe to Intellectual Property Laws....
Sadly, we are both fulfilling our rolls....
Given that, I don't know how it can be any other way....

Yeah, but Ulfwerener are modeled on mythic guys who were frequently immune to swords (Bodhvar Bjarki, for instance, or Tolkien's Bjorn). Of course, that was common in Norse myth: a lot of berserkers had the same thing going on.Aliboon wrote:Not sure on that one-they've got regen in BB and in mythology, can only be killed by a silver bullet/weapon? Hmmm... this might be too gamey, but it'll be fun as a cute house rule. At the same price (+10k is too too much), give Ulfwerener a skill so that when standing, he's immune to armor rolls (AKA you can't stab them or chainsaw them, but being sword-proof is no safeguard against blocks, fouls, or giant metal balls/rollers). Very Norse, no?

There's nothing to stop you from making a supplemental houserule sheet for your local league. Nothing nothing nothing. Have at it. Build a better mousetrap for you and your friends. Tinker tinker tinker. Attempt to achieve the perfect game, then come back and tell us what you did and how it worked in case we want to try. So it's not the official rules, so everybody everywhere else won't play with them, but who cares what people in the next town are doing?Vomit Lickspittle wrote:While both the waiting and the waited on share in some collaborative blame, we are both products of societies that ascribe to Intellectual Property Laws....
Blood Bowl is very forgiving of houserules: it's a wonderful kiddie-pool for game designers. Like the Masterbook RPG, it screams "fix me!" in a thousand places, but even if so, it's still a great game. If your fix is broken or overworked, you'll have a good quick time figuring it out. Individual rules can feel too complex, but this is a heavy game, so you can do a lot in little tinkers without being overbearing (unless you can keep a one-page errata sheet, brevity doesn't simplify anything, so either go minimal or whole-hog).
This is the best game ever written. And re-written. And re-re-written. And....
