First skill double on a Slann Lineman

Post by Joemanji »

#16 (Mazatl) has rolled 4,4 on his first Improvement roll. :) What skills do people suggest? No need to go down the passing route ... the catchers fill that roll with their AG4.

Team : http://www.midgardbb.com/MBBL/teamView.php?teamid=633

I'm thinking Guard as a starter.

But Dodge is obviously a classic too.

Anything else? With a relatively young team I'm not going to be building anything bizzare.

Dodge, Guard, and Leader are all good choices.

I'm not a big fan of leader normally as a doubles choice, but it might be helpful on a team full of leapers... especially if you plan on using it.

With Leap? Dodge or Leader. Give yourself an extra RR in the process of what you're doing. If you're looking for a fun Tier-2, try Nerves of Steel. It's seriously not as good (except on the Catchers, for whom it's dynamite -- See "Elf, Pro"), but it is fun.

Ooh yeah, Leader looks tempting. :) Got so caught up mulling over the choice between Guard and Dodge that it slipped my mind. Not something I'd normally take, but with Slann....

Cheers

I'd look at Sneaky Git... I found that getting people off the pitch wasn't as easy with Slann as I'd hoped. Some increased fouling would come in handy. (I Love the Idea of a Leaping Foul... Come down Knees first! or the peoples elbow!!!)

Sneaky Git with eyes on DP.

Or

Leader... You can never have too many RRs with Slann
Guard... Assists any one? May help get people off the pitch too
Dodge... All the obvious reasons
Side Step... Slann is all about position and Side steps good for that

Leader gets my vote. I'd pick Stand Firm before Side Step on a lineman, as there's 8 potential Side Steppers and only the krox will ever get Stand Firm, but either of those would be lower on my list than all the other suggested skills.

With Slann you're looking for good position... Sure Stand Firm sunctions in a simular fasion, but I'd still go foe the extra Movement Advantage that SS offers...

The only problem is you sorta need to commit more than one doubles to get any lasting bonous... If you had two or more SSers, you'd be in great shape, but one isn't that flash.

Given that I'd still shortlist
Sneaky Git,
Guard,
Leader,

You don't need any doubles to get SS on this team, both the catchers and the blitzers have A access. That's why I thought SS would be suboptimal on a lineman, it's so much cheaper on the 8 positionals.

But I'm with you on the shortlist.

Sneaky Git isn't a bad call here, even if it is sort of a second-rate skill overall. Once that guy's got DP, it means your opponent can't GFI in their own backfield for fear that it'll cost him a ball-carrier.

I wouldn't take Leader for a mere 20k saving in TV.

Guard would be my choice. You're not going to have very much of it (I can't see it being first choice on the Blitzers, and you only have 4 of them).

Take Guard. I keep wanting to put Guard on my Slann blitzers, but I just have too many combo skills I need to equip them with (i.e. strip ball+sure hands or catch+NOS or Blodge) that I'd much rather put Guard on a lineman than slow down Blitzer development.
