MOVES FOR BIG GUYS & STAR PLAYERS

Post by KnuckleGutKiller »

I Play a league that we each have two teams I playe Dwarfs and Chaos I have played 2 games with Chaos and lost 0-1 both times once agint wood elfs once against Undead. Both time I inflicted severe causulties on my opponent. This allowed me to get my Big Guy Minataur 20 star player points!
My problem is I was told that my Big Guy Minataur takes up four space on the board! and when he hit someone he can never seem to use frenzy because he has another player taking up a square near the person I hit so he just gets pushed back and I can not move foward. Is this true?? Where is the rules for moving Big Guys and the spaces they take up? I have the New 2002 blood Bowl box set and see nothing explaing this in old or new rules.
My second question is I was told that in league play (thats all games) I can't buy star players is this true? On the back cover of the New Blood Bowl Handbook it lists star players on the back cover and it lists the Dwarf Death Roller as a Star Player does this mean that I cant buy a death roller per Blood Bowl Rules unless I freeboot it for one match? WHat a waste what is the point of being able to have so many players then?...................... I am Confused SWeem like if this is true on both questions that Big Guys and Star Players are a waste of timeand

He only takes 4 squares in very early rules for 3rd edition. In any later ruleset, such as lrb 1.3, he takes only 1, his base may overlap but thats just a visual thing that has no bearing on the rules at all. His tz is 8 squares just like everyone else.

Are you sure? Where are you finding this?? What page which book? Blood Bowl Annual 2002? or the new Blood Bowl Handbook in the new box set?? Let me know cause I am getting screwed! How about Star player can you buy them? I thought they are only used in non-league games and does this account for Deat rollers on Dwarfs too??

All players take up one square
in 2nd edition big guys took 4
this has been the case since the beginning of 3rd edition
If your oppo is messing with you, put the mino on a smaller base
star players can be hired as free booters ie for one game only, unless your league commish has other ideas 8)

Yup, it is true. Big Guys only take up the one space. Our league was doing the four space thing too, drove us crazy. Then we found out that it was the old way of doing things. The key in proving this to your comish (if proof is needed) is that in LRB page 25 it states that Big guys are considered "normal players" except where specifically modified in the rules that follow that section. Read the special Big guy rules and nowhere do they state a Big Guy takes up four spaces. As such they are treated as a normal player for space purposes.

Ok.... That is not quite clear enough about there movement on page 25 of LRB however I will try to defend this. Of course I am the only person with a Big Guy and I have 20 star player points on him so I don't think they will go for it.... I wish it was more clear somewhere.

Is a death roller a star player? If not where can this be proven? League rules state no star players in Blood bowl book(which bites) unless you free boot

the Death roller is a star player
Its one of the Star player cards and is on the list of sp's in the annual and lrb i believe.

Try it the other way. Ask them where does it say that Big Guys take four squares. Answer is: no where except some 2nd ed rulebooks.

They have no justification for that ruling from the books...

Or you could dig out some old White Dwarfs with BB game reports in them - you can see Morg occupying only one square in those...

All players just take up one square, those are the rules, get them to a computer and show them this thread, if they won't accept it. Then if they don't we can come round and slap some sense into them.

Just show them the rules, it says they're normal players except the few special rules. Tell em to read the rulebook instead of playing the game from memory. This happens a lot to our group, because the rules have changed so much and people are too lazy to reread the rules. Just stand your ground, bro. Or tell them if they need to cheat to beat you, maybe they are in the wrong game. :) Or like someone said, tell them to show you where it says they take 4 squares. Good luck!

Just show the Commish the page in the LRB with the Throw Team Mate example. The Ogre clearly only takes up one square in the diagram.
