Is a thrower allowed to throw the ball to an empty field?

Post by dendron »

In a game using the rules LRB 5 a thrower has thrown the ball away to an empty filed just to make sure that the opponent cannot score a TD for a tie.

As far as I remember you need the Skill kail Mary pass to do so. But this might be out dated because I thought this was for LRB2.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Nope, A pass can be to any square within the pass range. Normal rules apply so you may fumble it.

Hail Mary Pass is a skill that allows you to through it to any square on the board.

Especially if your catcher has Diving Catch and you'd need to GFI in order to get them in range normal for the next range band reduction.

You can throw to the empty square in Quick Pass Range ... get the +1 bonus to the throw for the shorter range and then if it is accurate the Diving Catch player who would have normally without that skill been a Short Pass can still catch it with the +1 accurate pass bonus.

I do this play with my Slann from time to time.

Much to my dislike, as others have pointed out, it is legal to pass the ball to an empty square.

Although as the target square was an empty square and not the square of the catcher IIRC you wouldn't get a COMP for this!!

I asked this some time ago, and it even made it into the LRB5 clarifications. No COMP for this stunt, but it's still worth doing with my Slann (no one else has or will ever take Diving Catch). :)

I think they will if the new version the MBBL is testing that Ian and I came up with makes it in to LRB 6.0.

Some of our league's human catchers have DC, it's great for Hail Mary passes deep into the opponents half.
