Pro Elf Tournament Team
I'm thinking about taking Pro Elves to a nearby tournament. Injuries don't carry over between matches and there are three matches total. 2 regular skill upgrades or one double upgrade between matches. The two options I've come up with are as follows:
Option 1
2 Blitzers
2 Catchers
8 lineelves
2 RR
0 FF
Option 2
2 blitzers
3 catchers
1 thrower
5 lineelves
2 RR
1 FF
Which would you choose and why?

Since injuries don't carry over, go with the team with the better ability to score. The thrower and the extra catcher will do that for you. Then after the first game give your thrower accurate. You could also give a catcher leap or side step. Then score, score score.

I voted #2, though if you dropped a lino in #1 for an Apoth and a Thrower upgrade I might vote for that (yeah, sacrelige, I know, but 12 men doesn't matter so much as keeping your Blitzers and Catchers, but there is something to be said for numbers... an Apo gives you numbers and quality all at once if you use it on a Catcher or Blitzer, and you'll only be sorry you had it if you suffer no BH, which would probably be an indicator you're winning). After each match, if you get two normal skills per round, always use one of them to get a lino with Side Step. Side Step gets exponentially better as you get more of it. The other one can be a Catcher with Leap, a lino with Kick, or a Thrower with Leader... or another lino with Side Step.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

I think I like that, Matt, but instead of the apo, I think I'd take another ReRoll. If a guy gets knocked out of the game, you still get him back for the next game.
I love this game. So many answers and instead of being wrong, it's just a different flavor. Kind of like ice cream, how many bad flavors have you ever had? Just some you like better than others.

I´ll second this idea. The apo is in most cases a 12th player with the added benefit that the 12th player can be a blitzer or a catcher. And you'd get a thrower. The thrower has a useful skill given only 2 rerolls and gives you access to P skills as a regular choice.mattgslater wrote:though if you dropped a lino in #1 for an Apoth and a Thrower upgrade I might vote for that (yeah, sacrelige, I know, but 12 men doesn't matter so much as keeping your Blitzers and Catchers, but there is something to be said for numbers...

Re: Pro Elf Tournament Team
May I add a third option:
2 Blitzers
3 Catchers
6 linos
2 RR
1 AC
1 CL
At TV100 you can't afford an apoth or reserve, even with the cheaper linos of pro elves.
A thrower is not a great bet for tournie games where you're unlikely to develop him over the MA8 & MA7 players.

With Pro Elves, you should always go for both Throwers. They're only 10k more than a Linemen, same stats, but an extra skill. And you'll never know where the ball might come free.
On defense, a Thrower on both sides of the playing field is definitively a good plan. For you scoring run, it's good to have the backup if your opponent managed to get one Thrower off the field.

I'm halfway between Meradinis and PubBowler. I like Throwers with extra cash: if I have 10k or 20k left over that I'd otherwise spend on AC/CL, I can upgrade a lino to a Thrower. Having a Thrower is good in a tourney, because you can just pass with him most of the time rather than trying to spread the comps around. In a league, he's still worth 10k extra, but that's for development potential: in practice, he's pretty much a lineman in the standard rotation (at least until he skills), 'cause everybody's gotta get their comps in, right? If you get on top of the manpower curve, you just field him once a match on offense, and then later in the match when you're down to 11 or fewer, but in this new format with so little money floating around that's a tall order.
Nah. That guy's much better in tourneys than other elf P-access players, but it's really because he's only +10k over a lino with a skill that's usable on its own.

I'd go for the scoring potential. In a short tourney, the passer comes with a skill that is immediately useful. Use him to score TDs with. If he gets knocked off the field, well, that can happen to any player and the other line elves can step up. But while he's on the pitch, he's a great asset both on offense and defense. Offense if obvious, but on defense, you pop the ball loose from thier ball carrier in your backfield, you can use the thrower to chuck the ball to another elf and take off toward the endzone.
