What are the rules for tournaments?

Post by Jools »

These tournaments sound interesting, how do they usually work?

Well, most tournament threads have a link to the rulepacks (check the Tournament Posting section), and most, if not all, have subtle differences between them, but briefly.

1 or 2 days
3-4 games (one day)/5-7 games (2 days)
Various TR/TV - normally between 100 and 120
Most are "resurrection" style - i.e your team is "reset" between rounds, although some "league-style" tournaments exist.
Various methods of given additional skills.
Most use "swiss" to decide who plays who - basically, round 1 is random, then players with the same score are drawn against each other for the following rounds, so in theory, the best 2 players will face in the final game.
Various points systems.

That's a basic overview, but as I said, most tournaments will vary.

Arrive, drink loads, waffle to mates.

Play a few games.

Eat food then drink loads, waffle to mates, drink again (optional falling over at this point).

Play few more games, go home.

Pretty good fun...
