The slower the team, the deeper you kick. Although, honestly, I like to kick deep on every play. Then race the other guy to the ball. I try to get at least as many of my elves into his backfield as he has.

This is what I do:

Using the kick skill allows me to kick deep to one corner (usually about 3 or 4 squares in from the end and side)

While the opponenent is gathering the ball I then try and put a string of players between them and the rest of the team on the LOS, separating his players and making it as difficult as possible to get the ball in a cage

If he fails to gather the ball, or has not properly protected his ball carrier, it's very easy to blitz and score on my second turn

Most of the time that's what I do as well. If I'm outnumbering my opponent then I will sometimes kick short. That's quite rare though.

that's exactly it. If I'm playing dwarves or such, I kick it deep and just straight out race them to the ball. If I'm playing a medium or fast team, I'll kick it deep and set up a picket line between their ball carrier and the rest of their team. If I have them down a few players, kick it right in front of me and steal the ball right there.

I will kick short when my opponent strangely overloads one side and leaves the other clear. I have seen it over my life a few times, and it baffles me every time... although I'll admit I set up that way with my Dark Elves sometimes on offense to throw people off.

I've seen this a few times. Someone tries to pre-set thier cage at the set up. They'll leave a wide zone open and hope the ball goes the other way. That's just an invitation for me to put 5 or 6 elves in their backfield. God help them if I get a blitz or perfect defense on the kick off table.

I see that strong-side thing all the time. It works well against elves if the elves are down men, especially if both sides are hurting. I'll frequently do it on offense with developed bash teams, once you're pretty sure of your ball-getting ability (like an AG3/SH/KoR player or something).

What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

This is good and sound and thats what I do too against slow bashy teams too. Once the cage is formed up well with guard and sure hands its very hard to steal the ball, and with an av 7 team your hope of stopping them (by dodging back 1 square every turn) is a far fetched plan, so you godda do everything you can to hit them while they arent yet in total controll of the ball. That way you use your speed and your agility and play your team to the max.

In elfbowling games (vs darkelves, woodelves, skavens, pro elves & highelves) there is no real idea in kicking far, as their thrower will go there anyway to stand around with the ball untill he runs to pass it for a two turner next turn. In games like that I kick it short in his weakest corner near the LoS, so I can capitatalize on any blitz or failed 2+ roll he might get. If you consider how often two elven teams will setup in a game like that, its well worth it. Blitz happens 1 time out of 12 on a kickoff, double 1's happen 1 time out of 36 and both of those is real gamewinners when you kicked short.

Fisherking is right about kicking short against other high agility teams. When I play my Dark Elves against other elves especially, I try to kick right in front of my strongest players and draw them into a fight. Try to get them into a scrum. In an all out fight like that, the DE will tend to win. They've got the higher AV.

Hi All,

I thought I'd ressurect this thread for a quick update... I stopped playing with the elves for a while to allow other coaches to catch up on number of games played....

Our league standings are now available online at http://www.s-w-a-t.org.uk/swatforum/BBleague/

I've played a couple more games since I last posted, and have earned enough winnings to purchase a thrower and another re-roll - my updated team list is here: http://www.s-w-a-t.org.uk/swatforum/BBl ... ndits.html

I've made it to the league final, which is being played tonight against this team: http://www.s-w-a-t.org.uk/swatforum/BBl ... iders.html

The opposing coach is experienced so it should be an interesting match!

Cheers
Steven
