Zons in a 1.1M tournie with Skills chosen in advance

Post by darren woodward »

Star Player Points (SPP’s) will not be used in the tournament. The team will remain the same for all
five matches
2. Before the start of the tournament you should select one of the following skill sets:
a. 4x Normal skills, 2x double skills
b. 4x Normal skills, 1x double skills 1x MV+1
c. 5x Normal skills, 1x AG+1
d. 4x Normal skills, 1x ST+1
3. No players can receive more than 1 Upgrade
4. Instead of a doubles skill you may select a normal skill, you may not select “extraordinary” skills
5. Teams will revert to their original composition for the next game. All deaths/injuries are cured for the
next game. No extra players may be bought/acquired for your team.

I'm planning on taking Zons to the Club Challenge in May. I feel like a kid in a candy store!!!

My team:

4 Blitzers
1 Catcher
9 Linewomen
4 RR
1 FF
1 CL

Thinking "D"
2 Blitzers with Guard
2 Linewomen with Block
1 Blitzer with +1ST!!

So many choices ..... comments please guys.

Thanks, d

MonkeyBowl skill set by the look of it. I'm a fan.

Some roster things you might want to think about:

If you're allowed inducements, Babes & Helmut Wolf are good for a cheap team. 14 guys is probably too many and Babes work on your skilled players.

Likewise, an apoth to protect your skilled players might be worth while.

Skill wise, I'd go with:

3 Blitzers with Guard
1 Blitzer with Sure Hands
2 linos with Guard.

But 5 normal skills & +1AG, (guard on 3 Blitzers, 2 Block linos and an +1AG blitzer ball carrier) is also tempting.

I think I'd lose a blitzer and a line and pick up another catcher and a thrower.

I think I'd take the "C" package and put that extra AG on the thrower. Then 2 blitzers with guard, 2 Line with block, 1 catcher with block.

Thanks again for the input fellas.

Zons are a running team for me. The 1 Catcher is a probably a waste on my team as i only pass in emergencies.

No inducements that i'm aware of.

Was toying with the idea of 6 Guard players :D but was also conscience of strippers (aren't we all!!) Ahem - i couldn't lose the 4th Blitzer so i'd have to go with 5 x Guard (incl 2 x LineW) and Sure Hands on the extra Blitzer

Zons or Dwarfs - :-?

No.

Seriously, a really bad idea.

Amazons don't win tournies by having a throwing game or by being without their Blitzers (one of the most cost effective players in the game).

They win by having a relatively mobile bashing game.

And the Blitzers (especially with Guard) are key to this.

Never one for original thought, but wouldn't taking Option A, switching the doubles for Normals, and giving Block to 6 Linemen be an idea? PubBowler points out that Amazon Blitzers are a really good buy. Wouldn't 10 of them be good? Or at least 8, (leaving 3 Linemen for Scrimmage duties) and giving 2 Blitzers Guard.

The problem I have with a St+1 or AG+1 player would be he would be a huge target. By making it more 'standardised', you cause your opponent to not focus on specifics, and have versatility?

Or is that just crazy talk?

Morgan Vening
- Probably just crazy.

Mmm, you do have a lot of choices there-i think that 14 players is a bit of overkill, if you could swap a lino for a bloodweiser babe (bloke!?) then that would be better imo.

Agree about the +AG/ST thing, although a ST4 blitzer would be nice, it may be more useful to have sure hands blodge player, and up to 5 guarders, rather than 2 guarders, a ST4 and a sure hands blitzer, depending who you play.

To be honest, i'm not really sure you need any of the double skills, as you already have access to all you'll want (G and S, and diving tackle on the catcher) although having 5 guarders would be sweet.

Man, you've a lot of choices, it's easier to say what not to do than what to do.

Best Zon coach I've ever played used a short passing game to move the ball across and then down the field on every play. He had about a 75% win percentage and came in second in our league last year.

Fellas - i don't doubt that a short passing game could work but it just isn't my style.

There's no inducements - Babes etc

10 Blodgers would be sweet but i think they'd get outgunned with ST4/Guard etc

Still minded to go with the 5 Guards and 1 Sure Hands.
