BUT SPPs are poitless in the tournament environment.

On the FF question - you just KNOW that I'll get Throw a rock, cheering fans, etc etc EVERY DAMN KICK OFF if I go the 4RR/1FF route. Current thinking is 3RR/5FF. May return to my tulip roster of 2RR/4FF/Apoth.

Almost certainly only going with the one slayer. I think the extra Tackle and AV could prove useful if there are too many Elf/Quick Human/Skaven/LIZARD teams.

about Griff: he can do anything, or should i say everything:
Score, block, blitz anywhere (even in a cage...too good player.
Like the Vampire or the bull centaur

To field a Griff or a vampire on a human team you have to drop too many blitzers. Ok you won't need any catchers or throwers if you take both,
ie
1 Griff
1 Luthor
9 linemen
1 Apoth
2 re-rolls
ff 4

Or replace one of the stars with a Zug and drop 2 ff for 2 Blitzers.

Just don't expect too many sportsmanship points.

If I see rosters like tis the DP's are a first skill.

And Thads, why only 1 Troll slayer? They're the only guys in the game with Dauntless and in a Star player environment they'll be priceless! And after being beat by a dwarf team with a Grim, I'd say he's a good star to take.

1 Slayer did me fine at Tulip. My one time using Grim saw him spend most of the game flat on his back while a Headsplitter'd Skaven team ran circles around me. I am still considering the classic "2 Blitzer, 2 Runner, 2 Slayer, 5 Longbeard, 3 reroll, 3FF" roster, but why fix what ain't broke?

I have a feeling there'll be a lot of Lizardmen and Amazons, not to mention pointy eared scum at the BB so the extra Tackle from the word go could be useful. The Longbeard is a wee bit more durable too seeing as it'll be an 11 man team.

We'll see. Practically decided now means nothing I guess.

I think you should field that Deff Sqwad roster for the history and fluff!
I had a sneaking suspicion someone might remember that...doh!

In my defense I was forced to take Morg as Nobbla wasn't available - I still stand by my believe in Ogres being odd in Orc teams. My league team at the time never had an Ogre in it and I got to quite a few finals with it - never won the trophy though.

I agree that Stars can be a risky play - despite thinking of Varag as a no brainer for an Orc team. Like Thadrin and his dwarf line-up I'm looking at no star Orc line-ups, they ain't that bad.

Shane (ECBBL, bighat-wearing, dwarf-coaching, longfang-beating) won't be taking Grim this time around. Mostly because Grim's crap.

I'm with LF on the dirty player bit. Any coach I meet that concentrates their team's chances on one player - be it a wardancer or griff or whatever - will find said player brutally fouled off the pitch.

Fan Factor's going to be interesting this time around. FF didn't play a factor at all in my last 5 tournament games. It's all a gamble.

Playing as Norse WW's there aint much in the way of Star players so i aint gona be taking any. Instead im thinking of scrap the Star player and drop FF and go for a big guy and apoth. I was beaten to a pulp at res due to big guys! And ive found out the hard way about the apoth, so thats 1st thing on my list! Something like this maybe?

Big guy
3 Blitzer
7 Linemen
3 Re-rolls
Apoth
whats left on FF

Are we allowed apoths? Didn't think we were. (not that the rules are known)

Apoths were allowed at Res. To have one or not is probably the biggest sticking point on my roster choice at the moment.

I'll jump in on this one, just had a look. Here's the Res. breakdown:

Orcs 16
Skaven 10
Humans 8
Lizards 8
Welf 6
Norse 6
Dwarf 5
Delf 5
Halfling 5
Amazon 3
Undead 3
Chaos 3
C. Dwarf 1
Goblin 1
Helf 0

And here's the (corrected) top 25. I know the history books say different, but I was playing around with the results and I didn't want them skewed by Geoff Porrit's balls-up.
Image

This is how it would have looked with 4 points a win rather than 3 and is probably a better reflection of results:
Image

And of the top 15 from the second table, here's the SPs that I can recall:
Geoff Porrit: Headsplitter
Chet: None
James Wood: Luthor
Simon Merton: None
Richard Laking: Dunno
Hans P. E : Don't think so (I think I asked)
Anthony: None
Mike W: None
Colin Tough: Varag
Del: None
Andy Vulling: None
Andy Maclean: None
Geoff Thirwell: Morg
K.Sutherland: Dunno
A. Skilling: Dunno

So SPs not that prevelant amongst the top guys last year, but I suspect there'll be a greater amount this year. Anthony's said elsewhere that'll he probably be bringing a star this year, I will be again, Del may well (esp if he takes Humans). JJ asked for a show of hands from those who didn't take a star at Res. and would do next time. I remember a significant number going up. :)
All supposition of course..
Once the ruleset's out, we could maybe a run a poll on who intends to take a star.

You said there was just 1 Chaos Dwarf Team, but 2 are listed on your first version of the top 25 ?

I can understand why no-one took High Elves - far too pricy and skill lacking for this environment .. okay in a longer league format though.

Just don't expect too many sportsmanship points.
You can't blame a guy for taking a Star. IMO Sportsmanship points are for people who are good players who can win and lose gracefully and would rather just play the game rather than nitpick over rules.
