Coming back to the game after a long absence

Post by Syphwyn »

Hi guys, I am coming back to Blood Bowl after ages out of the game. Just read the LRB5 and pretty impressed, things have changed a bit from the straight out of the box rules I remember from 12+ years ago

Loving the fact I can now take Ogres in a human team, and there are so many teams to choose from compared to before.

Are there any South Lincolnshire players around?

Just need to get myself a copy of the game again and I'm all set, ebay here I come :D

Welcome back.
I rejoined late last year, jumping straight into LRB 5 from 3rd ed w/ Deathzone. Just a few things that I recall from relearning

1) Reread every skill; they don't all work exactly the same as they used to. Close, but not the same.

2) Read, and reread (and reread and...) Inducements. Took me a while to get my head wrapped around them. In addition to all the new stuff, Wizards and Stars have had notable changes.

3) Fan Factor is nowhere near as important as i remember it being. It has little to do with how much money you make per game.

Hmm, those are the big ones that jump out at me, if I think of anything else I'll add it. The transition actually isn't that bad. In fact, I think it may be easier for people who have been out for years like us, than it was (is?) for certain LRB 4 toting mods. <ducks>

Thanks for the tips :D

I noticed the fan factor thing too, from what I remember it used to be really important and the team rating was too, but they don't appear to be that important now

Team rating is still important, or rather team value (basically team rating less the treasury) is important. That is going to have a big effect in the inducement section, which is why I suggest going over that section carefully. A lower value team can do a lot of damage through careful use of the inducement system.

I must admit I haven't really looked at that bit at all yet. I've basicaly familiarized myself with the game rules, which lets face it didn't take that long and I've browsed through various other bits.

I shall have a read up on these enducements then I think

I like this inducement thing, nice way of evening things up a bit and means that teams struggling at the start of the league won't get mugged all season

Which has been the normal response to folks that have been gone for a bit and come back.

Its only the folks that got dragged through the process of going from 3rd to 5.0 that seem to show the wear and tear on their opinions on the end result.
