Vampires for the Spike

Post by wedge22 »

Would this be an interesting team to take to the Spike and if so what would you suggest I was thinking of starting with

4 Vamps
7 Thralls
4 Rerolls

no idea what skills to take but I think they would all go on the Vamps.

If you want to have fun with it, have at it.

If you want to be competitive, put the vampires down slowly and back away from the ledge. Personally, I think four rookie vampires on pitch at once is suicide.

2 Vamps for the win.

I wouldn't touch 4 even if you could front load with Pro on each of them.

Yup - two vamps and with as many rerolls as you can afford...

So best not to even stretch to 3 Vamps then.

If you don't mind pulling you're hair out...roll with 3 of them.

I'm not convinced that having only 2 is really THAT fantastic. (espescially for a tourney!).....but I think 4 is a BIG gamble.

If you can keep your "ones" down, 3 could be pretty good.

..good luck.

Your main problem with that team is not going to be "too many vampires", your real problem is going to be that you dont have enough players on it for a vampire team. A vampire team is going to shed players at least as fast as any other av7 team so ideally you need just enough numbers to play most of your drives starting with 11 players.

Personally I go for:
2 vampires
10 thralls
4 RR
chainsaw
2 FF

You can change the saw for a couple of thralls if you think you need more bodies, personally I include it because I like the extra bit of fun. If you do take it then plan to use it as a dedicated and disposable fouling machine most of the time. Occasionally you should you it for blitzing, but not too often.
If you really want more vampires then I'd recomend either dropping to 3 RR or swapping the saw and a thrall for it. Personally I'd drop to 3 RR (hoarde them for the drucial moments) and then trade the saw in for a couple of thralls. Potentially I can even see that going down to two RR and pushing the vampire count up to 4 is feasible too. The key is to keep at least 14 players on the team if you're going to do something high risk like that :) 14 players (of which at least 3 are St4, av8) will make sure that your team is durable enough to be able to keep playing through a whole game.
With the low number of RR your main problem really isnt going to be eating your own players, its going to be getting critical actions done successfully and making them count. You can afford to eat some stuff, it dosent register on the cas nearly as much as being punched by the other team, not being able to handle the ball hurts though.

Good luck.

I have decided against the Vamps now, thanks for all your help.
I will be using the Undead boxed team for the minis and just need to come up with a good starting line up for the game, never played undead before.
