How many figures do I need to cover all my team options?

No more than 2 more than the next guy :)

Honestly not an easy question to answer, as they're best just a bit higher than everyone else: too many adds too much to your TV, and too few concedes too many rerolls to the opposition.

FWIW, I never get more than 2, and 2 ACs.

Cheers tenwit.

I'll probably get 3 - 4 painted just to be sure. I can always sell a couple if I find that I don't use them.

A lot of people use Cheerleaders and the like as score, turn and reroll counters.

I like that idea a lot. I've always thought that they add a certain something to the visual aspect of the game. So any excuse to use more cheerleads in my team is a good one. Cheers PubBowler :)

I'm not sure if you'd really need a 2nd thrower.

1 is very nice early on with sure hands and the option of leader, but after that they can become a bit of a target with only AV8.

2 really aren't worth it once you get the TV higher than 150.

I agree with the other posters that 2 gobbos is the max you will ever want and 6 lineorcs will be plenty, you'd only need that many if you got seriously beaten up and that is pretty unlikely with AV9.

Thanks spubbbba,

I know you’re right. But I also know that one day I’ll want to do some silly experimental team that fields four goblins, two throwers and a troll, as well as some blitzers and black orcs. I can’t help it. Sometimes I play odd team mixes (in friendly games) just to see how they function.

I agree with you untill the first thrower gets something really special like +1 strength!! :smoking:
It happened to me, and I was glad I had a second thrower painted

Don’t forget I used to play wood elves so AV8 actually seems really good :D

Actually I’m seriously thinking of having two throwers in the backfield with block. I think this would make them quite good at taking out opposing catchers that try and break through my lines.

That's what I do with my throwers as well. Use them as sweepers to fight Wood ELf catchers and such.

whitetiger, I think it was one of your posts on another topic that made me think about using them in this way.

I'm putting together an Orc team that will have pretty close to the same players as you Hybrid. My line-up will be:

2 x Throwers
4 x Blitzers
4 x Black Orcs
6 x Linemen
1 x Troll
2 x Goblins

I thought about getting a couple more Gobbos but I really don't think that I'd use them. By having at least 6 Lineorcs you can have an all Orc line-up if you want.

You're going to have a team of 19 players? That's not actually legal. Even if it was, it'd cost a LOT more than the 1,000,000gp limit normally imposed.

Hey Olaf. They do look very similar.

I decided to go with 4 goblins because I know that one day I’ll have an urge to try a team with 4 of them just for laughs. As I’m converting all of the figures I don’t want to re-visit the team once it is done.

Same goes for the linemen. Hopefully I’ll never need six, but you never know in Blood Bowl. So I would rather be prepared and have six done and dusted now, rather than having to convert and paint any during a league or tournament.

I’ve actually reached the stage now where I have all of the figures for the players converted and ready for painting.

Of course not. By putting together a team, I mean collecting and painting the various miniatures for the team. I don't think that many starting teams have more than 11 or 12 players and certainly not for under 1 million. In an upcoming 1.25 million tournament I am playing in I will only be using 12 of the Orcs.

However I am looking at the long term. I don't want to paint 12 minis for my team and then paint additional minis up as I need them. It's a lot easier to just paint them all in one go (plus they'll look a lot more consistent than if I painted 11 players now and the others months later when I needed another player). Some of the minis may never even step on the pitch but at least I know I will have almost all my options covered for the team, no matter what combination I use (unless I want to field 4 Goblins! :D ).

I play Dark Elves more than anything else, and I've got about 20 of them, plus cheerleaders, coaches, hangers on....I can see your point on having the figs.
