Full Cockerel, hire starplayers?
Hi there.
I have a quick question. Lets say that you have your 16 player team. Can you still hire Star Players, or mercs?
Can Star Players get the MVP?
Thanks

page 70, LRB 5Star Players may not take the number of players in the team to more then 16. However, players that are missing the game due to injury do not count towards the number of players on the team, so you can use Star Players to replace players that are missing the game if you wish.
Mercs are use the same ruling as Star Players.
And yes Star Players and Mercs can steal your MVP.

Not contradicting the above as that is official; the following is experimental, and in testing.Punkpogoer wrote:page 70, LRB 5Star Players may not take the number of players in the team to more then 16. Per the Rules review:
THIS GREEN SECTION IS EXPERIMENTAL NOT OFFICIAL
Under Unlimited Mercs:
The normal limits on the total number of players allowed in each position do apply to Mercenaries (so they aren't truly unlimited); however they may take your team to more than 16 players for the current game.
Under Star Players:
You may hire up to two Star Players that are allowed to play for your team. Unless your league commissioner decides otherwise, deaths and serious injuries inflicted on Star Players are waived after the match. Star players may take the number of players in the team to more than 16.
THIS GREEN SECTION IS EXPERIMENTAL NOT OFFICIAL
Edited to help ensure no confusion.

I wouldn't confuse the issue with the experimental rule above, as the way I hear it, the BBRC will be scrapping that rule.

If it would be allowed to "retire" some players for a game or two and hire mercs or stars instead and then get the old players back on, why bothering with a roster anyway? And why not getting the guys from the bench to the team when the star was injured and left the game? What's this "no more than 16 players" crap anyway?
Seriously, I think the 16 players rule is just fine. If you want to hire stars, just leave a slot open for them. I never use stars as I think they are much to expensive for what they do. I love to develop my own stars like Skutgob, the orcish thrower with 5-3-4-8 Pass, Sure Hands, Strong Arm, Accurate.
Therefore I need my 16 players.... So many skills and so few players to put them on to...

Nothing to do with bias, it's just playtesting found 12-14 players (depending on race) the most efficient use of TV.

I dunno, I think goblins are a fairly clear case where more than 16 players would be ideal for an advanced team.
4 on-roster stars gives you only room for 12 other players. Considering the stars are being sent off anyway, that means you are really only fielding one reserve. AV7 and stunty requires more than one reserve. Then accounting for the fact that most goblin teams prefer to play down TR as the stars are reasonable value for them, any room left for stars means you will have no real reserves.
Considering the potential for up to 6 secret weapon players, goblin teams could often benefit from an 18+ man roster. Alas, it is just one of the many challenges of fielding goblins.
