Thanks for the input Matt. I do completely see your point about a lack of a ball handler, and some games it has undoubtedly hurt me.

However my gut instinct tells me that the two beastmen with diving tackle and pass block have won me more games than not having a ball handler have cost me.

The reason I went down this route, is that Chaos are my second team behind my humies, who I have no problem scoring with. Because of this I wanted to make the Chaos team a very defensive, and hard to beat team.

Secondly my beastman with pass block got his first skill after an interception, so I thought, hey, why not give him pass block, its a skill that I haven't used before or played against, it looks like it could be effective. Since he's had pass block he's got two more interceptions, both of which have gained me points, one saving a victory, and one turning a probable defeat into a victory. He's also very close to his second skill, so next game he'll probably have extra arms, and become the ball handler, plus an even more dangerous interceptor, especially if he then gets very long legs. 4+ to intercept, yes please!

I also intended to make one of my CWs a full back style ball carrier, but they're being very unlucky in getting SPPs. My intention is to give CW 2,3, and 4 (when I hire him), block as their first skill, unless they get a double, in which case they'd get dodge, then hope for a double for one of their second skills if one hadn't already got dodge. For their third skill I'd give them sure hands. It'll be pretty hard to get the ball of him!

Thanks again for the advice Matt, could you explain what you mean by the diagnoal wide setup?

Sure, Andy. Most of the time, the strongest WZ setup is:

Code: Select all

-- -- -- --|Line of scrimmage
-- -- LB --|-- LB
-- CB -- --|Sa
It does come with some downside. This wide zone setup is a liability against Leap/Frenzy, as your outside LB will get blitzed to the sideline across the LOS, potentially for a crowd push. You can sort of solve that by backing up a square (also foils Quick Snap), but that's very bad news for your pass rush, as it means your LB has to GFI three times over two turns to get the quick defensive score, and if your kick goes deep you might not be able to pressure the ball. It also opens you up on the inside, as your safety and inside LB have to drop back as well (or the safety will get hit). Unless the inside LB and the end on that side of the line both have Stand Firm or Side Step, that really softens your inside defenses.

If the PB guy gets doubles, take Nerves Of Steel!
