What next for my BC?

Post by dwarfrunner »

I have a CD team in a perpetual league, played 11 games so far and have developed them quite well (even if my record is 4-3-4 (W-T-L), and have a hard time winning games). I started off pretty badly, being 1-3-0 to start, but have picked up some steam since then.

My BC just got a ST+ as his third skill, to go with the Blodge he already had. Now I am torn as what to give him next? I am thinking:
regular: Frenzy, MB, BT
doubles: Jump Up, Side Step
Stat Increase: Would probably take whatever was rolled.

Anyways, would like to hear other peoples thoughts about how they would use him. Obviously, if there is a touchback when I am recieving, imagine who is getting the ball.

The rest of my team is as follows (incase you were wondering):
BC - Blodge, ST+
BC - Block, BT
CD - MB (close to a second skill)
CD - ST+ (close to a second skill)
3xCD - Nothing
Mino - Nothing
Hobb - ST+, Block
Hobb - DP
Hobb - Block
Hobb - SH, Block
2xHobb - Nothing

As you can see, I have been very, VERY fortunate with the skill ups. 3 ST+ on one team is nuts. And the skills are spread around okay.

Under normal circumstances I would suggest BT for this guy, but as he has the +ST, and the other one already has it, I would maybe go for Frenzy. Give the team some diversity and more opportunities for crowd-pushes!

Break Tackle.

With BT and Dodge he'll easily be able to dodge into cages and get a 2d block on the ball carrier.

I'd give him Stand Firm unless there are 2 or more Big Guys with Juggernaut in your league. On doubles, I'd give him Side Step for sure, as you can stick him in the WZ with confidence or play inside LB with him in either the 3-4 or the nickel. Stat bumps on this guy, of course, are all gorgeousness.

You need some Guard and Stand Firm on your Dwarfs. Good luck w/ that. I'd get Stand Firm next on the +ST Dwarf, as between him, the +ST Hob, the Mino and the scary BC cornerbacks, you'll be able to frustrate your opponent to no end. When you get Guard on the Mino, stick him on the outside to add an effective +ST to the ST4 BC on the corner, and Guard on a Dwarf placed inside can protect that +ST/Block Hobbo, giving your opponent a slough of awful choices. Just remember to push your opponent to the inside track on the Mino's side and keep the Dwarfs out of the WZ on defensive set up.

Break Tackle on this guy I reckon, so you can take advantage of dodge and your high movement.

On a side note, get frenzy on that other BC next. Crowd surfing opponents is just to much fun, and gives you the numbers advantage.

You know what? All that d-setup advice and all, but for the BC, I think Break Tackle is your best bet, followed by Frenzy at 76... IF you can get some Dwarfs up to account for your current lack of position-control skills. This guy will never get blocked unless you do something really dumb or force your opponent into a really hard spot. On Doubles, I'd still consider Side Step, as it lets you do dangerous things with him at CB and combines very well with BT. ("You're blocking me? Why, thanks for the square!")

I can see three good routes:

1) Frenzy- you'll have two STR 5 Frenzy players to make sure you own the wide zones, and eventualy a mass of guard block and tackle to own the middle.

2) Break Tackle- Get your Strength 5 to where he is needed most. He can't be tied down! and with Dodge, it isn't even high risk.

3) Mighty Blow- Some may say, "why"? For similar reasons to Break Tackle. Marking a player is one thing, but marking a Strength 5 Block Mighty Blow piece is crazy for the AV 8's. I look at is as a deterrant to marking, in addition to the obvious armor breaking benefits.

For doubles, Side Step is of course a good choice. I don't know if there is another choice which is even desirable on a bull after dodge and side step... But I would probably ignore the doubles on the next roll, all of the choices above are better, and Stand Firm will be serviceable in place of Side Step if the player gets that far.

Personally, I'd go with Break Tackle or Mighty Blow, depending upon the league make-up (Mighty Blow in squishier leagues, Break Tackle in bashier leagues.)

My first thought was Mighty blow to make this guys into a sweeper aimed at removing players from the pitch.

He can do it well and then has the movement to get where he needs to do it next.

He would be more of your grinder whereas you build out the bull with break tackle as your mobile blitzer.

Just my advice, though I usually play my bulls more hitty than most people.

Break tackle, otherwise I'm just going to man-mark him with a lino.

Re-Rollable
AG
Five
Dodge!

MA nine (well almost) means no one will be safe!

Give your other Bull Kick-Off return and Sure Hands next... Good fun!

Thanks for the advice. I can see the various ways to develop him.

I think I will leave the decision to the moment he actually gets his next skill. By then, my team development could be very different.

That being said, I just think BT would be to handy in this situation to create the ultimate mobile blizter to pass it up. But Side Step on a double roll is just so annoying for the opponent. I can get him right in the middle of the fight, and my opponent would take 3-4 guys just to get 2 dice, and even then I still have a pretty good chance of staying on my feet.

Oh well, I can dream. thanks everypme for the input.

HAHA, yeah, I would agree. But they only roll like this with skills. During game its the opposite, luckily my block dice are effective and I only need to get the ball once.
