First game report:
I just came back from my first ever Blood Bowl game. I drove over to a friends house with the box-set. We assembled the gray miniatures and removed the card board counters. After reading the first 17 or so pages of the latest edition of the Living Rulebook, we set out to play Blood Bowl. I choose the human team.
I scored the first touchdown of my Blood Bowl career on my 3 turn ( I think). One of my throwers, a lineman and a blitzer got to my opponent's side of the pitch. The lineman protected my Thrower from a couple of Ork linemen long enough to allow him to pass the pigskin to the Blitzer at the endzone.
I managed to keep the ball on my opponents side of the field for the remainder of the half, mostly due to really bad Dodge and Block rolls on his part.
We had to call it quits at the end of the first half because I had prior arrangements somewhere else. With one of his heavy hitters ( the Black Ork Blitzers) killed during a turnover, my friend decided to concede me victory even though we still had a whole second half to go. We'll play that second time with the beginners rules tomorrow or the day after that.
One thing I learned about BB during this first try is that I love this damn game. And that I want to explore it even deeper as a hobby.
I'll do a bunch of BB related stuff within the next few weeks:
1- Finish reading the entire LR5.0.
2- Paint the two teams included in the box-set.
3- Decide what team I want to collect and call my own.
5- Look for or start a League of my own.
I'm scheduling a game with a seasoned player from the area. I saw an Elf team in the local game store so maybe I'll buy it because I'm interested in playing an fast team ( elfs are agile right?). I'll see where I can take it from there.

Welcome to the beautiful game pal.
yup, elves are agile and fast. But they do tend to break easily. Be ready to play men down in most games.
As for the fig's, before you just buy up some store figs, look here for alternates, in the BB for sale section, you may find some one is trying to offload some, also keep an eye on ebay.

Update:
I just finished my first FULL game of Blood Bowl. Once again, I fielded a Human team and my buddy played as the orks.
My strategy was to outrun the orc team. My friend used his team's strength to make way for his runners, using every opportunity he got to try to injure or kill my players. He mounted a pretty solid defense at the line of scrimmage but neglected the back of his side of the pitch. I managed to clear the way for my catchers with blizters which where wide open once they passed my friend's defense line.
I made way by blocking one of his linemen with a linemen of my own. Then one of my catchers would run like hell all the way down the field with some protection offered by a free blitzer or lineman. Then my thrower would do his thing, passing the ball over the orc defense lines into the hands of the catcher. My opponent would send both of his Black Orks ( which he placed on the row that's next to the line of scrimmage) to get the catcher and try to ignore the rest of my players with his other orks.
We only used the basic rules during this game with the addition of the handing-off rule. Now we both feel confortable enough to try to play with the full set of rules. We are set to participate in a small start-up league here where I'm looking forward to playing with a human team.
Thanks for the warm welcome!
