It seems like I've really underestamated sidestep....really going to have to get that on some of my elves.
While I do struggle vs lizzards myself with my wood elves I don't think you are "doomed" once they cage.

You will have to learn to manage the clock vs them. and pick off the caged skinks.

If you can score in 1 or two turns easy, and he wants to cage like that, then you should be able to force him to take 3 turns to score fairly easily by placing the players as ianwilliams has shown.

So in the half you kick to him, he gets a score in say 3 turns or so. Then you score in 2 and then he has 3 more turns to score 2-1. There is plenty of room in there to deny him a score via either scoring in 3 yourself, or making one of his drives go 4 turns even. Additionally, you should be able to OTS in turn 8 if he did go up 2-1 to make it 2-2.

On the half he kicks to you, you score in 2 or so. Then if he takes 3 turns to score his td, you can easily score another td in the time remaining and stall his cage out the remaining few turns. Right?

Well I wouldn't say "lost the battle" but I'd definitely say "lost the advantage". If the opponent has 6 sauruses with guard then your optimum play is not working out how to break their cage but how to stop them forming one in the first place. Use your speed and agility advantage and don't let them use their strength advantage.
