Leap on a Dwarf Blitzer

Post by stashman »

Okey I did a crazy thing!

I skilled up a dwarf blitzer and rolled a double. I have a couple of side steppers already and I don't like dodge skill when you play in 220+ TV leagues. It was the first skill and a picked LEAP!

I have a great plan 8)

Leaping into cages on a 4+ is not impossible and with guard or stand firm as next skill it will be great. Even when you crash down the pitch you can leap to "holes" and hopefully don't land and with AV9 still be on the pitch and being in the way for opponents. You can never block a prone player and the opponent is often forced to foul (and with AV9 it's a big chance for the fouler to be sent off) to make the holes open.

Have anyone tried this type of tactics?

What should I take as second skill?

Guard (always a great skill)
Stand Firm (to put him where he is a roadblock)
Pro (use on landing rolls for Leap)
Pass Block (becuse of the Leap skill)
Strip Ball (as part of the blitzing/leaping action)
Juggernaut (if I take strip ball)

On a double
Side Step (always a nice skill)
Jump-Up (if leaping don't work, he dosen't loose movement)

Me, I'd look at Pro... It will help on leaps and whatever else as well.

This is the kind of guy who you move last, so there is a better than average chance that you've already used your Team Re-Roll.

Then I'd look to Stand Firm and/or Guard (take it from a Slann coach that a leaping Guarder is pretty awesome!).

Jump Up on Doubles, You already suffer from Low MA, and you have higher than average agility (for a Dwarf) so it makes a great alternative to dodge or another side stepper.

< I don't really get the facination with Side step... Sure it's alright, but with Stand firm available, there must be better options (like Diving Tackle!)

Gutsy move! Please update this thread with game results.

I'd be inclined to go all out with the cage buster/Leap theme - strip ball or Guard.

Your comment re Dodge not being helpful in high TV league - is that because there's a ton of Tackle?

Only 1 of my Blitzers has skilled up (they keep dying on me - after 17 games I'm on my 4th and 5th), he has Dodge and I've found it really powerful - he's slaighted to become my main ball carrier if I can get him Sure Hands (2 SPP to go!)

This is silly. Now if your guy had +AG, then I'd be down with it. But to buy a skill that gives you a 25% chance to fall down in traffic and burn a TRR... no thanks. 1/9 is ok 'cause the effect's a big deal, but even then MA5/Leap is somewhat suboptimal.

I'd go with stand firm, every point of movement counts, especially when you wan to be leaping in blitzing people. Also standfirm will keep you in contact if your blitz fails.

Not tons of tackle but dodge is good at low TVs. With TV around 220+ and the whole team don't have dodge, the dodger will always get picked by a tackler.

And personaly I have been powed to much to even think dodge will help even against a none tackle player!

And then add wrestle and dodge is not that great on defence.

Blood Bowl is silly!!!

My dwarf team is a FUN dwarf team! I only have Mighty Blow on my slayers and thats becuse my opponents shall feel it's a game of fun, not butchering.

So with leap I can do funny things, and I don't even have to use the skill, but sometimes I really wanna fall down in a square just to occupy it so the opponent can't move thru it!

It's a fun idea and I hope it pans out.

Stand Firm and Guard if you think you can get another player in to to make the hit.

Otherwise give him the skills to make the sack.

And I would go with Diving Tackle over Side Step (use Stand Firm).
In a tight cage, options for choosing your space are limited and easily predicted.
Diving Tackle will make the simple dodge away a lot less likely.

Dodge also works on the die roll for getting blocked will help keep yous blitzer on his feet not just for dodging in and out of places.

What about Juggernaut- it will cancel out any fend, wrestle, stand firm that a ball carrier might have? and keep you on your feet with a push back instead. Not that many runners or ball carriers would have that but it is a possibility.

Dodge sucks!!!

Dodge is good when you play a team where ALL can get dodge, not just one player in the team!

Well good luck with the leap, With be worth it surly. The number of oppenents that will have heart attacks the first time they see it and have to concede 3 - 0 will far outway the sub-optimal choice in nature.

I personally would have choosen SideStep. But then I believe Dwarves should be boring.

The onyl way I could agree more is if you said "will" instead of "can"

Yeah but thats a reliable leap and usually followed up by a leaping blitz :) This is daft because it isnt reliable and cant even be followed up. Maybe stripball since he'll pretty much have to be a lone cagebreaker if he uses leap at all.

I'd have almost certainly gone with DT if I didnt fancy the dodge or sidestep ;)

I understand fully the goofiness of the choice and support it fully. Love the idea that there is a high chance of you not being blockable in that square, so really filling the hole just like you wanted. Jump up would be awesome as the next double.

Landing on your feet is good, but not always what one is trying to do.
Have fun with the leaping.

Love the idea, brings another worry to your opponent, especially if you are crazy enough to try it a couple of times a game :D
