Bro, you just discovered what every Skaven player on earth hates to hear..."Ok, you're on defense now." There's really no way for poor rats to play good defense until you get some skills. The best way is a Leaping, Strip Ball Gutter Runner...or 3. The RatOgre is good for it too, but it'll be a bit before he gets block, so be ready for a few turnovers.
Just dodge out of tacklezones, stay a square away and between him and the endzone. Hopefully he'll fail a dodge, pass, or block. Otherwise you're screwed. hahaha

What 'dook said. I love playing Skaven on defence, even with rookies.
Defend close to the line. SVs on the line is a good idea as they have the best armour and will be taking the hits. Linerats have just as much MA and AG so there's no harm running around with them.
Keep a GR in each widezone and charge downfield at the quarterback. Use GFIs if you need to. Get TZs on the ball carrier while he's still in the backfield. Having someone with kick skill will make this a lot easier - it should be the first skill your team gets on a linerat.
If you can't reach the quarterback to either mark or blitz him, then use your blitz to open space on the line or in a widezone and run as many rats as you can spare around behind their line. You want to get as good a screen as you can in between the quarterback and the line so they can't form a pocket or make a decent pass.
If you're up against a passing team, then have a look at their ball carrier, work out where he'd like to run forward to make a pass and put a rat on that square. Do this for his 1st and 2nd string throwing lanes and then put guys in the way to make it hard for him to get anywhere else.
The rest of your players should be using blocks and dodges to fend guys away from them on on line. With a bit of planning your opponent will need to use his blitz in the backfield, which will stop him breaching your line and running downfield.
If your opponent manages to get through their next turn without failing a roll, then you have 2 GRs in scoring position and a whole host of support players behind the cage (which is the best place to attack the cage)
Above all, don't forget your GRs. Your first turn after kickoff should revolve around sending your GRs after the ball. Don't worry about risking them falling over. The sight of 2 GRs bearing down on a thrower who is only 4 squares away from his own endzone is enough to stress out any coach.
Good luck

What Marcus said. With speed and agility teams (skaven especially), one of the keys is getting in behind the front line wherever there's a space.
It may also help to think of defense as "offense without the ball." You still have to breach the line and run players through, it just so happens that there's some poor schmuck on the other team that's got the ball you need. Stopping a rolling cage with AV7 players is rarely fun. Since your team is so fast, you can often stop the offense before it gets started.
And fast is what this team is all about.

Do Not play defense with the Rats....
If you can cause havoc in the backfield with some Gutter Runners do so. If he forms any kind of offense, just get out of his way. Do not let him hit you, just run along side of him and make him score. Do not try to stop him, you won't have enough Rats to score on the next drive. You can always score, remember that. All you need is a turnover from him, just one little crack of light, and you are gone.

Well, being a new player to him, you might have the advantage the first game, but if he holds true to form, you better have spending money for your Skavens or any other team, because you'll need to replace all the dead ones ater he gets done with you. I myself had to replace 5 of my 13 man roster last week. That hurt....

Vampyrsoul just needs to learn to get his players out of the way! And it might help if he stayed away from the sideline a bit... i love knocking those little humans off the pitch!
But.. its true.. i ALWAYS lose to new players.. not sure why.
And trust me.. .I am in no way any sort of "master" at anything.. lol... i just seem to win more than i lose.
