Double 5 on an orc blitzer

Post by Master Wang »

So, I finally got to play another game after all the great help on this previous thread http://www.talkbloodbowl.com/phpBB2/vie ... sc&start=0. All the upgrades were great at some point, with the thrower and blitzer #4 really shining. I beat a wood elf team 1-0 and, after previous improvement rolls, wasn't suprised when my blitzer rolled double 5. Here's the team in full:

1) Blitzer sidestep
2) Blitzer **double five**
3) Blitzer sidestep
4) Blitzer +AG
5) BOB
6) BOB
7) BOB
8) BOB
9) Thrower block
10) Lineorc

Apothecary
Rerolls 3

Fan Factor 6 (not counted towards TV, all teams started with 3)

120GP in bank (to be spent on troll)

Do I want to take the MA (with the agility 4 blitzer, quick touchdowns will actually be doable), add another agility skill - dodge, diving tackle or something else (not sidestep, as I think 2 sidesteppers is enough), or just get frenzy, guard or MB which I was going to consider if it had been a normal roll?

Cheers!

Dodge.

I never regretted choosing that skill on the blitzers on my orcs teams. In fact I was disappointed when I did not roll double on any of them.

Its a close debate between the +MA and Dodge, in my mind.

Personally, I'd never turn down the stat bonus. Your odds of rolling another doubles are about 2x that of rolling another '10'.

I took the speed as I had 2 Dodge Blitzers already. Next I rolled a doubles and took Sure feet next and I have a MA 7 +2 Blitzers that really helps the speed factor on my Ork Team.S.

Side Step

Yes, Side Step again. Three blitzers with side step is like playing against an elf team, but thats stays on the pitch.

I'd be OK with 2 Side Stepping Blitzers and target 2 stand firm Blockers.

So for this player, it's a toss up between Dodge and +MA in my book. I'd go +MA, but you can't go wrong with Dodge.

MA. Hands down. Orcs have no MA7 on their roster, and an outside linebacker with MA7 can score from off the line in two turns without needing to GFI. The OLB position screams "don't block me!" as you can't make a hole by blitzing the OLB, so Dodge will be less useful than it would be on one of the Side Step guys.

I'd probably take the MA.

For me...
+MA first, or
Diving Tackle Second (make him into a backfield safety), or
Dodge third (if you wanted a Reliable runner)

Dodge is Good, But doubles are your chance to think outside the square. If you already had a few skills and was geared up for a specific roll, Dodge for sure.

But on a first Skill Roll, Use this chance to make a specialist.
MA for speed, DT for safety, or Dodge for runner.

+MA first choice for me. Fast orcs are very useful and the jump from 6 to 7 is surprisingly big (two turn TDs without a GFI)

If you don't want it I think sidestep is a better choice than dodge because he would be the only dodge on the team - so just attract your opponent's tacklers. Without any dodge on the team all that tackle is just a waste :)

If you already had 2 dodgers I'd use exactly the same argument in reverse. Most teams have a couple of tackle. So you need lots of dodge to prevent them easily negating your dodge.

Yes, my orc team looks a lot like Wangs and the thing orcs really lack is speed. 1-2 players with MA7 would make the orcs truly unbeatable.

With AG4 you can play ball (I have accurate and 2 AG4 blitzers)
With Side Step you can be really anoying (got two of them as well)
You already have the muscle (lots of ST and AV9)
You dont have the speed (unless you count the flying gobbo, but Id rather put my money on a MA7 orc blitzer). (I dont have it either and I have a really hard time moving the ball fast forward)

So, MA. No doubt. I pray to nuffle every time I roll the dice, but of course, he doesnt listen.

MA or Diving Tackle

either option then cries out for Tackle and Mighty Blow as catcher killer/marker.

You already have a Side Step Blitzer for Frenzy use and I never take Dodge when it isn't going to on the vast majority of your players.

I also agree with that +MA. It might seem nothing, but the difference between MA 6 and MA 7 is is a BIG diference, specially for an orc team.

Yep, the 6-7 MA breakpoint is one of the big ones. I'd definitely take the +1 MA
