Blitzer is a 'safe' choice, and I'd go for that personally.
And no, I think you've made good choices with your advancements. And well done on actually skilling up Linemen.
My suggestions (long term) for advancements:
Blitzer: +ST, Strip Ball, (Juggernaut)
Blitzer: Dodge, Leap, (Guard)
Lineman: +MV, Sure Hands
Lineman: +MV, Block
Lineman: Guard, Block
Lineman: Guard, Block
Lineman: Block
Lineman: Block
Lineman: Block
Lineman: Block
Lineman: Kick
Yes, lots of boring old Block. But my goodness, you'll need it.

The +MA Linemen are "Junior Blitzers" in my book. Build them out with Block, Dodge, Sidestep, Pro. As soon as they get Block they're well and truly Blitzers.
So I'd take a Witch right now. I don't recall if LRB4 has the Journeyman rule. If it does, then save the money and grab a Journeyman lineman for your next game and see if he works out. In which case you might spend some money on an Apothecary right now.

I am tempted by the extra Block considering that only two players have it so far. However, I think I will go with the Witch Elf for the simple reason that she is so different from anything else the other elf teams I have played can get.
There are no journeymen in LRB4, just Freebooters (cost half list price for one game). I actually already have an Apothecary, just forgot to state it.
Thanks again for all the advice everyone.
One tactical question - how would you use the two Guard Linemen? On offence and on defence. Do they shadow the blitzers? Or stand on the line? Or lurk in the back field waiting for their chance?

The Guard linemen? Hmm... I've never had two of them.
Usually I have one, and I center my line on him so he helps to both sides. With two, I'd be tempted to go with a 5-man front and stagger them in the middle.
Probably better to put one in the center of a 3-man line, and use the other as a floater. With Guard, you can rush him in to cancel tacklezones and he'll still count as an assist on that blitz. Or put both in the center of a 4-man line and setup to chainpush through the center.
With 2 Guard Linemen, I think you should spend some serious time pondering Chainpush Zen and how you can use chainpush to leverage extra movement off the LOS.

Use them at outside LB to protect the corners in the wide zones.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

Guard linemen-
Putting them on the line on offense can work, but try to make sure they don't end up in tackle zones, or they will be hit first.
On defense, play back from the line, preferably where they are not easily blitzed. Then use them tactically to get advantage die blocks wherever you need them. Sometimes (often) this will be in the wide, so make sure they aren't in the middle three squares of the pitch.
I have usually had one guard lineman, and he absorbed a lot of punishment over the season. He's just a great target, so you need to make sure he doesn't take unnecessary hits.

I've had a couple more matches now, and now have need for some more advice please. After the last match I bought a Witch Elf.
The first game was against a Necro team with two weres, two wights, a ghoul and two golems. I won 3-2, mainly due to a lucky touchdown play in my last turn. However, the victory was pyrrhic. One of my Guard Linemen was killed, and two other Linemen were seriously injured (one with a niggle - he got fired).
The second game was a 1-0 victory over a Khemri team. I only started with 9 elves, but luckily he lost a Block Mummy (dead
) to a thrown rock from the crowd and a Block Skeleton (also dead
) in the first half and I clung on to win. I didn't win enough to buy a new Blitzer, so bought a Thrower to keep numbers up (LRB4 unfortunately). The team is now:
Blitzer: +ST, Side Step, -AG
Blitzer: Dodge
Witch Elf: Block, Strip Ball
Thrower
Lineman: Guard
Lineman: +MV
Lineman: +MV
Lineman: Block
Lineman
Lineman
Lineman: MNG
FF: 8
RR: 2
Apothecary
W/T/L: 4/1/0
My real questions regard the ST4/AG3 Blitzer. I had decided to give him Side Step thanks to all the advice from this site, but then he aged when he skilled (I really wish FUMBBL was LRB5
) and got -AG. I then still gave him Side Step, although in retrospect I now believe that Dodge would have been a better choice. What would you have given him?
The most important question now is - how should I use this Blitzer? Should he always go on the line? Should I retire him when I have the money to replace him? Should I ignore the lost AG and just use him the way I have been doing (lots of dodges to get where he is needed)? I have always tended to use him out wide and very mobile, but I can see this burning rerolls quickly now.

This is LRB4 so no Fend or Juggernaut.
I'd assign the ST4 Blitzer to LOS duty. That way he'll die an honorable death. Other pluses are that ST4 is nice on the los against many teams and many times he'll be in the thick of things right from the start where the ST will come in handy. Long term I'd want to get rid of him.

I'd give the ST4 blitzer inside linebacker duty, to help hedge the opponent out on one side and force them to build strong the other way. 7/4/3/8 Block/Side Step is a super-duper speed bump, and makes a great protector for your shiny new Witch Elf safety. You're right to give him SS over Dodge: on AG3 you don't want him dodging anyway, especially given the ease with which you can have him lay the wood at 2d.

Don't do that!!! The opponent att high TR will probably always have other ST4 players and some guard players - that will make ST4 on LOS bad!!! Don't let him die easy!Ullis wrote:This is LRB4 so no Fend or Juggernaut.

REALLY???? Jezz I thought you just put all your best players where your opponent could kill them..... may I missed somthing but I thought it was called blood bowl. I think the very best stratagy is to have your best player die.stashman wrote:Don't do that!!!
