Well, until he needs 3SPP to go up again.

I was probably to tired to understand thatBlammaham wrote:REALLY???? Jezz I thought you just put all your best players where your opponent could kill them..... may I missed somthing but I thought it was called blood bowl. I think the very best stratagy is to have your best player die.stashman wrote:Don't do that!!! I'd assign the ST4 Blitzer to LOS duty. That way he'll die an honorable death. Other pluses are that ST4 is nice on the los against many teams and many times he'll be in the thick of things right from the start where the ST will come in handy. Long term I'd want to get rid of him.either that or you missed the sarcasim.....S.

I have decided to keep the Blitzer for as long as he stays alive. After all, human teams would never fire a ST4 blitzer and he is exactly the same, just 10k more expensive.
I played again last night vs High Elves and won 3-0. With ST4, Block and Side Step the Blitzer makes a perfect road block for one of the wide zones and his lack of AG seems to make opponents put an expendable player next to him all the time - giving him plenty of 2 dice blocks in a game. He's still a way off the next skill, but what would you all suggest he gets next?
Only one more player skilled - one of my +MV Linemen - but he also rolled double six! This team must be blessed! The team is now:
Blitzer: +ST, Side Step, -AG
Blitzer: Dodge
Witch Elf: Block, Strip Ball
Thrower:
Lineman: Block
Lineman: Guard
Lineman: +MV
Lineman: +MV, +ST
Lineman:
Lineman:
Lineman:
FF: 8
RR: 2
Coaches: 1
Apothecary
Treasury: 80k
W/T/L: 5/1/0
Any advice for next skills for all players would be appreciated. The Thrower, Witch Elf and one Lineman are quite likely to skill next game. In particular, how would you suggest I develop the MV7/ST4 Lineman? Blodge? Or are there more interesting possibilities?

The S4 Lineman needs Block next. NEEDS. He's going to be one hell of a target as he is already, so get a bit of protection on him and start using him as a replacement Blitzer.
The other Lineman could use Block as well. Boring, I know, but the basics are essential.
Witch Elf should get Sidestep or Leap. Or Mighty Blow if she gets a double.
Thrower could use Sure Hands or Kick-Off Return.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.
Unfortunately, my ST4 Blitzer died last night
He didn't even go out heroically - just to a block from a zombie.
I also managed to lose my remaining Guard Lineman in a second game (-ST serious injury so he got retired)
- and my Thrower is now -AV. FUMBBL has far too many bashy teams!
On the plus side - I rolled another double six
on a Lineman (no other skills). I now have two ST4 Linemen (one with +MV as well). Any interesting advice on how to develop these players would be appreciated.

Well, I think I will answer all the questions, eventhough some of them are to late:
1. What to do with my +ST blitzer?
Give him dodge. Not only do you increase his survivability, but you increase his SPPintake, beeing the perfect scorer. ST4 blodger isnt easy to take down. Then you could develop him more.
2. What positional player to get?
Witchelf. You dont want to start with them, because you need to develop your team to protect them first. But on the otherhand, you need them pretty early, because you want to develop them, blodger and sidestep are obvious choices. Dauntless could be very useful in a bashy league as you describe. +AV is a nobrainer ofcourse, as is all stat-increases. But maybe not until after blodge.
3. What to do with my +st linmen?
Well linemen need to do everything that your positional players wont. Ie, into the fray and get down and dirty. So +ST is great, but you really need to increase there survivability. Blodge is important. +AV is good aswell. Dont try to make them into a specialist, SPP comes slowly on linemen, and dont expect to be able to get more than 1 or 2 or maybe 3 more skills for quite a while.
In general, you seem to be playing a bashy league. You need to focus on survival. Your agility already gives you the edge on goalscoring for the most part. I general I would go forGUARD, BLODGER, DAUNTLESS and +AV +ST is nice. +MA im not so sure about. Maybe on one or two at the most to increase your ability to score quick goals.
Its a shame you dont have assassins since thats a way to handle bashy teams, even though they tend to get punished when they fail. Id say that try to hire some starplayers at times, esp. when you met an extra deadly team. Yes, it costs you a bit, but on the otherhand, the starplayer will attract alot of attention, and the rest of your team will come out of it better off.

Sorry to hear about your blitzer, unlike some others I think he was a great player for you even with ag 3, and I wouldnt have played him as someone expendable. Sidestep was the perfect choice for a blitzer that was going to get - ag, and with your two guards he would have been able to create alot of space for your team with 2 dice blocks and good possitioning, when you decided to break down a cage.
I dont agree on building lineelves as throwers/runners, because you can buy players that perform that role much better, and there are other usefull things to do with + MV lines. With a thrower and mv 7 players as catchers you do have a passing game, and though it can be better for a darkelf team to go for a running game, the option to make easy 2 or 3 turn scores with a good thrower is extremely valuable.
I think a darkelf team on fumbbl should have 4 blitzers before it starts buying witchelves and throwers. Darkelves block more than other elf teams, and its valuable to start creating good lines and good blitzers for that role, to be the backbone of your team. Throwers and witches gets skills easily so they can come at a later stage and catch up with the rest. Witchelves are a great asset that will boost your teams winn percentage, but on fumbbl you can play as many games as you want, so it often pays of to think long term.
You blitzers can be build as many things, and dodge is a good first skill choice on most of them, though one might need to take tackle, another guard if you get it and maybe one blitzer as a cagebreaker with leap and strip ball. A blitzer comes with block, so no matter how you build him he will give your team a better blocking game when you need him for that, and he can perform his special tricks when the opportunity arrises.
As for darkelf strats, I dont think you should go head on like an orc, but pick your fights when there is something to gain from doing that, like breaking a cage you have weakened by possitioning.
I dont think strip ball is that strong a skill for a witchelf, it can be annoying to HAVE to throw the second block once you allready stripped the ball, her purpose is mainly to threaten the sidelines, score touchdowns and do takeouts. but now you have her with strip ball, I would take leap or sidestep.
The good lineman should take Block as a first skill, and then dodge or sidestep, then tackle. He is like the blitzer and can be used for multipurposes. With block he is a good blocker, with blodge he is a good blocker and a good ballcarrier, that can be used to blitz too when you need him to do that (In times of desperation he can even dodge into a cage to take down the ballcarrier, its around 56 % chance to dodge on a 5 with a rr, but dont make a habit of it) When you play defense you never really know what kind of situation the game is moving to, so a multipurpose player (as he would be with blodge) will be very usefull, with mv 7 and dodge he can move around the field ok, to fit were you need him.
Btw, what is your fumbbl nick so we can see how your team progresses?
