the reason ehind dodge on all lineman was that i prefer to dodge back a square or 2 rather than big blocks (if i wanted to block every player every turn i would have chose dwarf). it also helps against blocks. i know block may be useful but you can use the dodge skill in more ways than the block skill.
and its also more in the elf fluff, well they are suppose to be fast and agile and not noted for there strength

I prefer to try and develop specialist players than just to try and develop a team around 1 tactic. While one tactic may work against some teams, it is more than like ly to fail against others. Against Dwarf teams Dodge is ineffective. I like to give my offensive/defensive line Block ifn they haven't already got it, but i like to develop a couple of specialist players. Particularly a specialist at fouling ( Dirty Player, Mighty Blow, Razor Sharp Claws etc ).
This Boy is there specifically for one purpose. Take out the oppsitions best player. Being sent off is not a threat, i expect him to be sent off. If you are lucky or patient enough to develop a team you can end up with endless possibilities, and be in a position to play against any opposition

I'm probably in the minority here, but I think the statement that "Dodge is useless against Dwarfs" isn't quite true. Every Dwarf team lines up 11 players on the field, and 5 or 6 of those players do not come with Tackle. Yeah, I wouldn't count on using Dodge all the time everywhere, but if you were a team loaded with Dodge - say, Amazon or any developed Elf team - you'll still get plenty of opportunities to use it unless your opponent decides to bench his position players.

A player with BLOCK and DODGE goes a long way in my book. I've seen one of our coaches play very agressively with Wood Elfs, leaving guys in tackle zones to shut down any advance. They took everything that was thrown at them and gave better back. Not many teams have Tackle on more than half of their lineup, unless they are high TR, so unless you only play against your mate with a dwarf team, Dodge and Block means you going to be awfully hard to knock down.

Hi there, did a search on HE & tactics and found this thread, so guess it's gonna get bumped. Hope people don't mind.
I've been running a coupla small leagues (7 & 4 ppl) and now starting a larger league (abt 12 ppl, still having ppl sign on). In all I'm playing HE. I find that it's useful to develop the line-elves almost evenly, with 3 getting Dodge 1st to make their job on LoS easier; at least 2 with Block asap for the widezones; and at least one with Kick.
See topic "Tr 100 Starting Rosters for Bloodbowl Teams" for my starting lineup.
Of course, 1st game SPPs tend to go to my Lion W and Dragon W - 1 TD each at least to ensure skill upgrade after 1st match. I need the wins for the cash - Apo & extra bodies.
I agree with one article in Midgard abt HE (I won't say which one, read 'em all and have fun!) being 'the best' so you shouldn't be afraid of dodging out, Dodge skill or not. Same goes for facing teams with tackle. Difference is dodging out of LoS goes down in the list of safe things to do, so do other things first.
Personally I think elves, any type, should develop small 'teams' to do specialist jobs i.e. for LoS, for wide zones, on offense and on defense. In fact there's a great article on GW Specialist Games website called 'Elf Playbook' with a great section on Skill Progression. Although it's for pro-elf, a lot of it applies to HE as well.

i think a 2.5 year necropost must be a record of some sort
I agree with creating specialist "groups" on a HE roster, I definitely built my receivers, throwers, interference runners, sweepers and ball-retrieval specialists. I think on elves more than most teams you can really run the gambit and specialize in pretty much *everything*... the only problem is, still being elves it can be easy to find yourself with "holes" in your strategy (relying on the 2 linos you happened to roll doubles on and took guard... suddenly when both are ko'd you realize how much you've come to rely on them. not that im speaking from personal experience or anything
