Passing, Natural vs. Unmodified dice rolls and Java Client

Post by Nightbird »

First of all, if I am correct, a NATURAL, UNMODIFIED roll of 1 / 6 always fails / succeeds. That being said I have a few questions about passing in general and also about how ski junkies client interprets or lacks to interpret natural dice rolls.

1) If you attempt to pass and roll an UNMODIFIED 1 you fumble the pass and it scatters 1 square. If the square is empty it bounces one time ending it's motion. If the square is occupied it may be caught. If the catch is succeesful, enough said, if not it bounces one sqaure ending its motion. Correct?

2) If you attempt to pass and roll a MODIFIED 1 the pass is considered not accurate and will scatter 3 times from its destination square (ie. the catchers square). If the square is occupied it may be caught. If the catch is succeesful, enough said, if not it bounces one sqaure ending its motion. Correct?

3) Assuming a 6 is needed, If you attempt to pass and roll an UNMODIFIED 6 it is considered accurate and can be caught as such. Correct?

4) Assuming a 6 is needed, If you attempt to pass and roll a MODIFIED 6 it is considered accurate and can be caught as such. Correct?

5) If I am correct on the above, is there a way for the Java Client to interpret NATURAL dice rolls of 1? Or distinguish between MODIFIED AND UNMODIFIED 1's?

This is what I get from my interpretation of the LRB pg. 13 throwing the football. Please let me know if I am interpreting this correctly and what the deal with the Java Client is on this matter. Thanks in advance all.

a modified 1 is also a fumble so the ball scatters one square from the thrower, i don't think it then bounces again.

a natural 6 is accurate

a modified 6 is only accurate if 6 was the target (might be wrong don't do much throwing)

From my experience javabowl does throwing correctly, so don't worry about it (though apart from prone foul appearance polayers)

Unmodified 1 is always a fumble, unmodified 6 always succeeds.

1) Yes you are correct except it could bounce to a third player and then to a fourth and so on until it bounce to an empty square where it stops.

2)No, a modified 1 is also a fumble and therefor treated like in question 1.

3)Yes, answered this before.

4)This is not possible as you cannot get a modified 6 if you need adice roll of 6 to get an accurate pass.

5) Don´t know anything about java client so i can´t help you there

What about 'accurate' or 'strong arm' ?

quick pass also gives you +1 so rolling a 5 would give you a 6

I understood it so that he needed a 6 to roll an accurate pass. And if it is a quick pass or you have strong arm/accurate you will usually only need 5+ or better. You can get a modified 6 only if you need 5+ or better on a pass.

your questions have mostly been answered already, so i wont rehash them. on the issue of how skijunkies client addressing things: all rolls succeed on a 6, and all fail on a 1. if you look in the message window where the rolls are made, you see that no modifiers are ever displayed when a natural 1 or 6 occurs. however, i have noticed a few issues w/ the program. fumbling a TTM pass (modified 1 or natural) never causes a turnover unless the player was holding the ball. also, when standing up a player w/ less than ma2 assists do not take effect. also, there are select few cases where WAs were able to skip their turn when standing next to an opponent. and i dont think completed dump offs count towards spps. also, under sweltering heat, when the half ends no exhaustion rolls are made. but aside from a few exceptions, and the few skills yet to be implemented, his program works quite well.

I don´t know if I misunderstand you but a fumbled ball bounces once, not twice. A fumbled ball will end in a square next to the thrower unless that square is occupied.

I don't think that this is in the current rules set.

Ok, so does an in-accurate pass scatter 3 times from its destination square or the throwers square?

Galak I wonder if you could comment on my original query?

It scatters from the destination square.
