***COMPETITION*** - Design a new team for the MBBL2

Post by Joemanji »

Hello chaperoons! :D

The MBBL2 is a heavily house ruled play-by-email BB league run by Tom Anders (Galak). We are having a recruitment drive, and as a sweetner for any potential new coaches out there, we thought we'd give you the opportunity to actually write some of those rules for yourself.

This competition invites you to design a new team.

It's simple enough. Just post your idea in this thread and we'll choose the one we like best. That team will then become an official addition to the MBBL2 pantheon (currently standing at 89 teams). There are a couple of small guidelines however:

1) The team must not require any additional programming in the PBeMBB tool. If you are not familiar with the tool someone here will point out any issues and help you to correct them.

2) The team must not be too similar to any of the current MBBL2 teams. We already have a Half-Elf team for example. A list can be found here.

Cheers
Joe

well heres start of one if you like:

AVATARS OF KHEMRI
These ancient beings are the “demons” of Khemris ancient gods. They emerged from the Khemri Desert when their worshippers prayed for divine intervention for an upcoming Bloodbowl tournament. However these beings actually enjoyed the game and decided to stay and deliver divine beat-downs on teams from other lands rather than return to the desert.

As much as I love the crazy rules I currently have no interest in playing in MBBL2. However, I present...

Hungry Hungry Halflings

Halflings are ravenous beasts, it is a rare halfling that dosent fill their pockets with pies and string sausages around their neck when preparing for the trial which is a bloodbowl game... and thats just the proffesionals!

Training halflings to withstand the protracted periods of exercise and no eating is one of the biggest strains on the finances of nearly every proffesional halfling team. Such training dosent come cheap, it requires months of expensive physio and a complicated starving and gorging process.

However, a new breed of halfling team has started to appear... the small but squat genius of Mungo Bigtum decided that the only obstacle to halfling success is this hugely expensive trainging. He reasoned that if you could find some way of persuading regular halflings to stay on the pitch then you could save an absolute fortune, an absolute fortune that you could pour into the players who actually showed some sort of potential. His conclusion was that bloodbowling world really needed was some sort of giant pie holding wagon that could be wheeled around the pitch, ready to sate the appetites of passing players.

1-2 Pie/Hotdog/Soup Wagons 250k (first is free)
Mv 4 St 5 Ag 1 Av 8
Iron Man (all injuries result in stuns), Stand Firm, Cannot Block (or blitz), Ignores Tacklezones (so never rolls dodge rolls), Disturbing presence (affects players from both teams)

0-16 Hungry Halflings 20k (hell, these guys could be 10k or even free)
Mv 5 St 2 Ag 3 Av 6
Dodge, Stunty, Right Stuff, Sprint, OFAB (A/GSP)

0-2 Oddfellows 40k
Mv 5 St 2 Ag 3 Av 6
Dodge, Stunty, Right stuff (A/GSP)

0-2 Hot Pots (halfling catapults) 80k
Mv 3 St 2 Ag 1 Av 8
OFAB (in case they need a refill), Bombs (uncatchable), Hail Mary Pass, Secret Weapon 8+ (P/GAS)

0-2 Hungry Ogres 110k
Mv 5 St 5 Ag 2 Av 8
Break Tackle, TTM, OFAB, Mighty Blow, Thick Skull, Big Guy (S/GAP)

0-4 Pro Halflings 70k
Mv 5 St 2 Ag 3 Av 6
Dodge, Stunty, Right Stuff, Sure Hands, Kick, Strip ball, Wrestle (SAP/G)

Re-rolls - 50k
Apoth - Yes
Wiz - No, one LRB5 style masterchef per pie wagon (may have on-pitch wizard but not off-pitch)

OFAB is a skill identical to bloodlust except that in the event of a failure the affected player must complete a move action which finishes in a square adjacent to a Pie Wagon (causing no injury). If this is not done then the player leaps into the crowd in a mad attempt to steal a norse spectors hot dog and is removed from the pitch, suffering an injury roll and causing a turnover.

Hi All!

Somebody likes him maybe:

The chaos elfs you are hoarse as a slave on the Chaosvastes in the ancient times the successors of elfs hauled over, who the strengths of the chaos all deformed psychically bodily, all,. They are similar to a living nightmare flaming red with lighting chaos runes imposed their body, and their hideous changes. Their former cleverness and their arrogance, which is superb bloodbowl, were kept of course beyond this they are made players!

0-16 Chaos cultist 50.000 6 3 3 8 - G/M
0-2 Nurgle elf 90.000 6 3 4 7 Foul Appearance, Disturbing Presence G/A/M
0-2 Tzeench elf 90.000 7 3 4 7 Extra Arms, Tentacles G/A/P/M
0-2 Slaanesh elf 110.000 7 3 4 7 Hypnotic Gaze, Fend G/A/M
0-2 Khorne elf 110.000 6 3 4 8 Frenzy, Horns G/A/M

Re-rolls: 50.000

It is possible to ring changes on it of course yet because I do not know it how viable you are how much strong in this manner...

I ask indulgence it possibly for wrong English! :-?

Thanks!

I don't have a team proposition myself, but I just wanted to comment that Sillysod set the bar pretty high with the Hungry Halflings. The fluff, the differentiation, the pricing. It's all there. Bravo!

Here's my try at a (stunty) team, the Amphibians.
The major skill of the team is it's regenerative ability.
Because these critters live in a toxic wasteland they're also prone to getting mutations.

Qty Type MA ST AG AV Skills Cost Normal Double
0-3 Bull Frog 4 5 2 8 Regen, Loner, Sticky Tongue (read Tentacles), Always Hungry, Really Stupid, TTM, Jump Up 140K S GAPM
0-4 Warty Toad 5 3 2 7 Regen, Block, Foul Appearance 90K GS APM
0-16 Tadpole 6 1 3 5 Regen, Stunty, Titchy, Right Stuff 30K A GSPM

Meant to bring the list I'd created a while back, but I forgot. You'll have to make do with what my faulty memory can come up with. The idea is to have a team that makes positionals really, really positional. Every position gets one skill category, and one skill from a different category (i.e. they all start with a doubles skill).

Half-orcs
Their fecundity knows no bounds, but their progeny are the scum of the earth, disavowed both by their orc fathers and their mothers of whatever race. But sometimes, enough of these poor outcasts survive their teen years to grow strong enough to beat the ever-suffering stuffing out of the bloodbowl players of all the other races.

0-16 Half-Human Blocker: 5/3/2/8 Piling On G/ASP 60k
0-4 Half-Skaven Runner: 7/3/3/7 Nerves Of Steel A/GSP 70k
0-2 Half-Elf Thrower: 6/2/3/8 Sure Hands P/GAS 70k
0-4 Half-Ogre Blitzer: 4/4/2/8 Block 80k
RR 60k

Yea 16x Piling On is nasty. But not as nasty as Stand Firm, and I couldn't think of anything else that fits the blurb. I guess they could start with no skill and drop the RR cost to 50k.
I was seriously thinking of Strong Arm instead of Sure Hands for the thrower, fits the half-elf/half-orc idea, but then they'd have to be AG4 to be balanced, and then the team would have AG4 and ST4, and that's a no-no.
I also thought of making the half-humans linemen, and adding half-dwarf blockers, but I just couldn't see any orc pillager lying with a dwarf woman, so I canned that idea.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

as Darkson showed to tenwit its pretty difficult to come up with a new roster that doesnt already exist in mbbl2;
when I tried to find a bit of unused warhammer background to feed my ideas, I first thought about Sartosa Pirates but wasnt satisfied with any justification to why pirates would play BB then I thought about something outside the WFB background...

Spartans !

From southern city-states come fearless warriors filled with pride.
Plus they wear way cool helmets !

The heavily armored Hoplites rely on discipline and strength.

The light armored Peltasts outflank the enemy with cunning speed.

The Ouragos (Phalanx leader) is second to none to read the game and put order in the ranks.

And Helotes (slaves)... well, they fill the ranks and stay in the shadows.

0-16 Helotes 50k 6 3 3 7 Shadowing G/SAP
0-4 Hoplites 90k 6 3 3 8 Grab, Fend GS/AP
0-4 Peltasts 90k 8 3 3 7 Sidestep GA/SP
0-2 Ouragos 100k 6 3 3 8 Kick Off Return, Pass Block, Sure Hands GA/SP

Re-rolls : 50k
Apo : Yes

Sorry for the broken english

How about calling it a Kobold Savages team? Then add a bunch of fluff about the Kobolds hunting habits (they leap at their prey and pin them down) and maybe tweak a few positions :)

I think having an identical name would be an issue with the roster, a piling on team could be pretty cool though so just re-design it around a slightly different background concept. While you're at it you could probably afford to be a bit more generous with the stats and prices.. make the team a little more competitive. I'd also check out which version of piling on MBBL2 uses (and specify if you want your roster to use a different version) as well as specifying stuff like who can be a spellcaster etc. Part of the fun of designing a MBBL2 team (as far as I can see) is theres just so much you can add to a team in the way of cool and fluffy options.

Piling On kobolds and position-tweaking. Urg. I am NOT going to be able to get that image out of my head today. :blue:

Could try those changes, feel free to have a go. The idea is in the public domain now. Or could just rename the team to Orc Half-Breed or Orcish Outcasts or something.
