Thrall rolls double 5's for first skill...
Ughh... now what?
Take Guard?
Take the AV?
I am thinking that I'll get more mileage out of Guard then I would the AV, now that BH is the max that can happen to him from a Bite.
Thoughts?

I wouldn't take the AV anyway. +movement would be better than that imo. +AV won't protect you from the vamps, nor will it help you skill up faster, or make you more of a threat. It'll just make you slightly more resilient, and you'll be 10 SPPs away from your first real skill.
Guard, leader or +mv imo.
Do you have enough re-rolls considering how many vamps you have? If not then leader is a cheap re-roll.
Otherwise guard is always good.
Personally I'd take the +movement, he'd be the only speed 7 guy on your team. 6 to 7 is a big jump imo.

It's about equal in terms of utility. The jump from AV7 to 8 is huge, but guard is probably the best utility skill available. What else do you have on the team?
edit: And I wouldn't minimize how useful the jump from AV7 to 8. When playing vamps, you generally can avoid biting a few players, so that's a weak argument against armour, and having an AV8 for the line can be VERY good for the overall resilience of the team.

With only 4 re-rolls I'd be tempted to take the Leader.
I'd also consider pass. But you may prefer guard to that anyway.
I like +1 move, but no at the expense of doubles.

On a thrall with skills I'd take +1 AV, not a fresh one on a fresh team.
(I already tried that before on my vamp team.)
And tchatt, %$%@$%@$^@ work.
I don't play my vamps to scrum or bash, so I'd get more mileage out of Leader than guard. But you know your style better.

Curious...how are people considering leader less of a throwaway skill than +AV? I would guess that a +AV player would be faster to skill up, since he's less of a target and more likely to stay on the pitch, and he helps avoid having your players badly outnumbered, which means other players are more likely to skill up faster (this benefit in a way is similar to what guard would add). Plus....rerolls are important, but you don't have to have the same 'rerolls are everything' mindset with the new bloodlust.

A RR costs 70k while leader costs only 30k.. also you dont have to blow 140k on it. The same applies to FUMBBL, nearly all teams should take a leader because it is significantly cheaper both in TS and TR but vanishingly few FUMBBL coaches ever take leaderDecker_cky wrote:Curious...how are people considering leader less of a throwaway skill than +AV? +Av is a terrible skill... 30k (so nearly doubling his cost) just to make the player look like a human lineman? While it helps the team keep intact during a drive it dosent do much in the way of helping you get the ball off your opponent quickly... and thats something that really expands the linespan of players on a vamp team.

I took Guard.
In my past 2 games, either one or both of my Vampires spent the majority of the match either KO'd or BH. In other words... I have had plenty of RR's. Now I of course fully understand that I won't be as lucky in the future and that when I want another Vamp I'll need more RR's.
For now though, I think that Guard will serve me well. I have been lucky to get at least 1 SPP on quite a few of my Thralls so hopefully I'll start to see some more skill rolls soon.
Thanks for the advice and the quick replies!

The secret to my vamp's success is I don't use the re-rolls for the vamps.
They make thralls brilliant.
But guard is a decent choice. I find my av 7 guard guys just get killed, but that is only a small pool.
