Landing on the ball (two scenarios)

Post by Fat_Emrys »

Apologies in advance if my search-fu has failed to find a previous thread.

In two recent games I've witnessed and experienced two situations for which we failed to find anything in the (LRB5) rulebook.

1. A thrown goblin lands in the square in which the ball is innocently sitting. Does the ball scatter or does said goblin - assuming he lands safely - have the chance to pick it up? [We rolled the landing and he rolled a 6 so we decided the goblin deserved to get the ball]

2. Last night we had the situation of the ball on the ground surrounded by 4 of my players and 2 of my opponent's goblins. My oppo's bombadier duly lobbed a bomb into the square which has the ball (and successfully knocked half my players down). What happens to the ball? Does it scatter once or does it get blown 2D6 squares in a random direction (which is what we did, partly for the fun of it)?

An official ruling would be helpful. We've moving to LRB5+Experimental for next season, if that helps/makes a difference.

With the bomb, the ball explodes into a million pieces and kills everyone. Well, it doesn't. But it would be funny.

Id say, but without knowing for sure:

1. Pick Up roll required after the successful landing. If failed landing, bounce the ball.

2. Bounce ball from knocked over player.

1. The ball scatters (p.13, Bouncing Balls, "or a player is pushed to or lands in the ball’s square, [snip] then it will bounce")

2. Nothing happens to the ball, as neither the ball or the bomb "occupy" the square, and there is definetly nothing in the rules about it scattering 2d6!

Ah! Good call on the first scenario. I'll highlight that in my rulebook.

I feel I should stress we knew there was (as far as we could see) nothing in the rules about it scattering 2d6 squares, but given our inability to find out whether/how far it should scatter we chose the cinematic approach (as it was on a friendly match and it was fun!). The decision may have been different had league points been at stake.

Ah, misinterpreted scenario 2. Thought you meant knocking over a player holding the ball.

But I like that you make up rules as you go. Blood Bowl should be fun and fluffy. As long as it is one-off games.

I love the idea of the ball being scattered 2d6 when the bomb hits it - that is fantastic :) Talk about chaos! You could also have said that it was blown straight up in the air and then scattered it like an inaccurate pass.

The ball should also deflate from the shrapnel...
That could affect bouncing and passing of the ball from that point forward...
