Failing to catch a bouncing ball

Post by Mocaiv »

I have generated so my interest in BB again at my local games club that a few questions arose last night. Here is number 3:

If I have Blitzed/Blocked, knocked over the ball carrier and the ball bounces to the one of my players and he fails to catch it, does that cause a turnover and end my team turn?

Failing to catch doesn't cause a turnover. Failing to catch a pass from a team mate does.

There is a list of turnovers on page 8 of lrb2.

No, you never suffer a turnover from failing to catch a bouncing ball.

Not exactly true, Grumble, failing to catch a pass from a teammate is only a turnover if no one else from your team catches it before it comes to rest.

The bottom line is: failure to catch the ball for ANY reason is NEVER a turnover by itself.

Before you say but failing to catch a pass that then drops to the ground is a turnover. The actual turnover is from the pass as the rule says a turnover happens when a pass is not caught by a member of the moving team. The pass set up the turnover rule, not the individual catch.
