Blodge Orc Blitzer Development
Hey folks,
Advice needed on the second skill for a Blodge Orc Blitzer. Normally I'd be fairly happy to take Guard, Tackle, Mighty Blow as determined by skills in the rest of the team, but he only went and rolled a second double, which has left me a right conundrum. I can't see a second really useful double that is worth the TV.
Sidestep could be interesting, but wouldn't be really useful until he had guard as well, and Standfirm achieves a similar goal without the TV inflation of a doubles skill.
Diving Tackle, Jump-up, and Leader all have uses, but only in specific circumstances, so again are tehy worth it over the standard skills?
Some further background - the team has qualified for the league play-offs and has been drawn against Skaven. I'll get the best part of 150k inducements for the game. Its a must win game or the season is over for the team and they'll likely never play a game again.
The rest of the team is
2x Throwers - 1 accurate, 1 Kick-off return
4x blitzers - 1 Blodge Guard, 1 +St, 1 Tackle, and 1 Blodge Doubles
4x Bobs - 1 Block, 1 -St, 1 MNG for the game
1x Troll unskilled
2x Goblins - no skills
Given the singular tackle on the team I'm veering to ignoring the double and taking tackle for Gutter Runner hunting. However, I can probably induce a tackle line orc for the game - that would allow me to use the tackle blitzer for tackle blitzes, and the line-orc for marking. That leads me to Guard, since again I just have one guarder.
Any thoughts?

6/3/3/9/Block/Dodge/SS is an amazingly good cornerback. Stick him in the wide zone, and opponents will have to play inside and try to beat your Black Orcs. It doesn't demand Guard at all... in fact, Guard isn't so hot on that guy 'cause you want him to be the one taking the hit. Though I do agree Guard/SS is lots of fun.

One option is the pin - diving tackle, with stand firm or sidestep to follow up - and tackle too. Diving tackle will probably annoy skaven more than any other skill.

Other options Leader - if you don't have it and have less than 4 rerolls is an option.
Nerves of Steel or Catch are options too - if you want a better passing game.

Given the never-play-again thing.. take DT, it's the best for an anti-skaven side. Induce the merc lineorc w/ tackle, and pair those two up (DT vs dodge is annoying, too often you'll dive on the first roll and the second roll will be a 6.. leaving you flat).
Keep your Blockler as sweep, for blitzing the gutter gumps.

I would be tempted to take a normal skill, probably Mighty Blow or Guard. But if I was to go with the double I think these are the best options. I'd take DT - which can be frustrating against dodge, but also means those gutters are more likely to move late in the turn. Its not that the can't get away - its that you stop them doing so first up. Going prone on the first dodge (on a 2,3) is always risky, but you've a 50% chance of getting a turnover at that point so normally worth it. If its not worth a 50% chance of a turnover then don't do it!
I'd not take a tackle line orc merc for the inducements. At 130k he's not cheap. A chainsaw would be better value - if you manage to control the game and keep him on for most of a half. Or if you don't like the 'saw the wizard would be better.
If you beat the Skaven who are you playing? DT can be useful against most teams - even those without dodge. Tackle on the other hand can't. If its another dodge heavy team tackle (and ignoring the double) might be a better bet but it would be pretty marginal.

Semi will be against Richy or Lycos - Undead or Nurgle. Richy has blodge Ghouls and Lycos has a dodge pestigor so DT could have uses against both. On the the other side of the draw Geggster has won his QF with Zons and will meet Skaven or Wood Elves. So DT looks like it could be pretty good in the QF and if I win that ok for the semi and quite handy for final. Considering I've never progressed beyond the QF in the ECBBL playoffs I'm not overly hopeful that forward planning is necessary!
