A dark elf fouler just rolled advance #3

Post by grampyseer »

Ok, here's the team.

Runner. Dump off, Pass, accurate, Sure hands
Blitzer. Block, Dodge, Mighty blow
Blitzer, Block , Dodge, Pro
Blitzer. Block
Blitzer. Block, tackle
Lino. (fouler in question). Sneaky Git, Dirty player, regular advance roll
Assassin. Shadowing, Stab, Sidestep
Lino. Fend
Witch. Frenzy, Dodge Jump up, Block
Witch. Frenzy, Dodge, jump up, block
Lino. dodge, AG5
lino. Kick
lino. wrestle, STr 4
Lino. AV -1
4 re rolls.

Ok, so here's my thoughts so far.

Sure feet. (now an 8 square foul range)
Fend ( to assist on my LOS)
Wrestle (also assist on LOS)
Block, or dodge ( to keep him up).

Any ideas appreciated.

Dodge, not only to keep him alive, but also to help him get to do the foul if he needs to dodge out of a TZ to get there.

Block (to get next skill you have to stay alive)

OK, 4 blitzers, 2 witches, 1 runner, 1 assassin (or +ag guy) means that I have 8 players basically pre selected for the drive.

...leaving me with 3 for the LOS.
As this is where I see him spending the start of every drive, what skills do you think will be the best for that defensive 1st turn?

Wrestle. Useful on the LoS if that's where he has to be, plus if you get to use it defensively, that means you definitely have someone to foul on your turn.

QFT, in this context it's as effective as Block and way more devious.

I'd take block over wrestle on a DP. It prevents counterfouling after he knocks himself down.

Why would a fouler be blocking? He'll never knock himself down, he'll wander off in search of another foul victim. Block/Wrestle is for defending when being blocked. Sure you're a tad more likely to get fouled, but not much, and really, who cares? He's not a game winner, you'd much rather have him fouled than your star blitzer or witch-elf.

hmmmm, I think wrestle might be the way to go.....maybe fend on the next lino to skill up.

Ok, now that I have your attention...the AG 5dodger; Leap next?

Hmmm.. I'd go Block, because then I'd have confidence that he'd survive long enough to get the Leap, Sure Hands combo that I'd _really_ want on him (and he should be able to get all five skills in 20 games, probably less). But Leap for instant whizbang.

Wrestle... If this poor guy is on line duty, make him a Wroger. With AG5 he'll creep up to 4 skills (assuming he'll survive the line) Then get leap.

P.S.: Wrestle on the DP. Wrestle on any and evry lineman! Then Dauntless!

P.S.S.: Jump Up on assassins! TeeHee!

Retire him. He's already a great fouler, and nothing will make him better at it.

Dodge is the a close choice, in my book, and Leap is devious... but save the TV and start building his replacement.

For me, Dodge has 3 good uses on a fouler (and I've put dodge on a hobgoblin fouler before as well as a Dark Elf one.)

1) Surviveability
2) Mobility
3) Target for Tackle players.

Don't underestimate the last one. Tackle focused on your dirty player gives your witches and other dodgers more room to operate.

Or you could give him Tackle or Diving Tackle. Then he can man-mark anyone who wants to dodge away from him. Failing the dodge means getting a foul.

Now if that's not a great deterant, I don't know what is.

And Leap on the AG5 Lino sounds great. I'd even put a Blitzer on the LOS (one without any skills) to allow him to act as a safety or linebacker.
