A big guy for the ogre team

Post by Oxynot »

I've been mulling this idea over in my head: giving Ogre team a Big guy. Why? I do know they already have up to six ogres with strength 5 and bone-head. But I like the idea that the ogres are just 'linemen' or 'blockers' on the team. As in an ogre answering a curious interviewer why there are six Big Guys: "o, we're just linemen. THAT's the big guy." Whilst pointing his ham of a thumb towards something even bigger.

Well, that's the idea and since ogres are one of the worst teams anyway, adding something singular cannot ruin them. I'm not sure what that Big guy would be though. Something with strength 6, to make him stand out as a Big guy. Maybe a gorger, with Claws and Wild Animal, or a greyback or maybe a (tiny) slave giant with Really Stupid :)

Just tossing this ridiculous idea out there, if someone wants to make something out of it.

Cool. AG1 and lose BT, I would. Though AG1 might get rid of the leaping possibility.

Piling On would be amusing. If overpowered.

My opinion:

Giant - 5/7/1/10 Loner, Really Stupid, Always Hungry, Mighty Blow, Grab, Stand Firm, Throw Teammate S/GAP

But yeah...it would be pretty overkill. Not to mention you'd never actually be able to get a Giant onto the pitch properly.

It would be nice to get it to be at least remotely playable, meaning that the big guy should both fit on the pitch and be a valid, though not optimal, choice. That's why I'm ambivalent towards the choice being a giant.

You guys are aware that the stronger the player the less MA they have right? lol. :o

At St 7, AG WILL be 1 and MA will be NO MORE then 3.

Whilst Ogres don't have a fantastic win ratio, they do make a dogs breakfast out of their opponents roster more often then not. At ST 7, first skill you'd give is BT and Leap would seem obsolete as the Cage Breaking tool of choice, and the general carnage would be close to exponential.

Not all high strength players have low movement. It depends on what they are. Vampires are S4 MA6, for example, and Snotlings are S1 MA5.

There's nothing to say a Giant would be slower then an Ogre on the pitch. If anything it would technically be faster, what with bigger strides.

I thought it was AG and ST that were linked (and the Yhetee's ST should be capped at 6 to give a combined total of 7 for the two stats - my mistake there).

I posted something similar to this on the Goblin Buffs thread. Note the reduced MA.

0-1 Giant
4/6/1/10 Always Hungry, Break Tackle, Loner, Mighty Blow, Really Stupid, Stand Firm, Throw Teammate, Unstable S/GAP 180k.

Unstable (Extraordinary): After declaring action, before rolling for Really Stupid, roll 1d6. On a 1, fall over and end turn. Each player in your TZ must roll AG or fall down too. Roll AV for everyone who is knocked down this way, friend or foe.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

A house rule giant I am working on, it may be of some interest. Please note it’s still under construction and has not been tested on the field (yet).

Giant 200K

5719 Loner, Always Hungry, Wild Animal. Giant Size (house rule).
Very Long Legs, Mighty Blow, Multiple Block, TTM.

Design notes:

The Very Long Legs is more for the giant’s size than leaping.
Very Long Legs
The player is allowed to add 1 to the D6 roll whenever he attempts to intercept or uses the Leap skill. In addition, the Safe Throw skill may not be used to affect any Interception rolls made by this player.

Giant Size (House rule)

The giant model is placed on a base that “fits” on 4 squares on the pitch (board) and has a tackle zone around those 4 squares. The giant model is moved as normal but taking into account all 4 squares. If the Giant pushes back a player and can’t follow up because of other players blocking the squares he would need to move into the Giant cannot follow up.

Yhetees are already represented in the Norse team; though they're called snow trolls.

As an ogre coach, I'm not sure I see the big help here.
I often do better with 4-5 ogres, than I do with 6.
Adding another player with a negaskill who also inflates TV tremendously won't be much of a boon.
IMO - naturally :)

Just for fun, I'd wager.
