Ok, on the issue of two throwers on a skaven team... There is no reason to NOT have 2 for the skaven. They are just a linerat with surehands that has access to passing skills. I always take 2. One is the real thrower, gets accurate and things like that, he is the one that is meant to throw the ball to a gutter runner. The other gets hail mary pass, and then block and other skills you would give a linerat. That way you have two men with surehands in the backfield to pick up the ball. If the real thrower gets it, then you pass to the gutter runner. If the hail mary guy gets it, you lob it down field and let your gutter runner go down and get it. Works especially well against slower teams. Two throwers just gives you the added versatility. Besides that, if you only want one on the field at a time, the opponent never knows which you will bring, so it forces a more balanced defence from him. Keeps him from stacking the line and pounding all the linerats. 20,000 is not alot to pay for a linerat with surehands, pass and access to passing skills.
Trambi - Ogre teams simply aren't that common. Ogres define mercenary - they really don't care who they play for as long as they get paid and fed. My dwarf team aren't giving up their ogre (if only because its the best paint job on my team - which is now approaching 30 models.)
The line up I gave would be against a Human/elf/Skaven type team. If I played chaos I'd probably shift a Longbeard up onto the line, or possibly one of my slayers.
Of course, just now I only have one slayer and eleven players
Playing a Wood Elf team with 7 FF next though
Who have yet to be beaten and average three TDs per game
But I have lots of Tackle
if you want to rant about big guys not making any sense, why not talk about Minotaurs in a Norse team..
My Ogre in the Dwarf team is so bad I'm really considering selling him (the A'dam league allows inter-team deals and such..) because in 5 games he has picked up 2 casualties. He still does not even have Block yet!! Plus I gave him a Magic Helmet which I wish I had given to my Slayer instead!! Three times in the last game he failed to collect a hand-off! I hate him, but I'm totally with Thadrin, he's the best painted model in my team, so unless someone offers 150K, he might as well stay and look good on the LOS...

Skaven throwers are cheap. Two throwers for a starting team in very important for skaven. For only 20k you get a linerat with 2 good skills. Sure hands is extremly important for a non-elf team. 2/3 chance of picking up the ball is not enough, especially for a fragile team like the skaven, and gutter runners need to get down field and set up in a make shift cage. They can't afford to waste time to get the ball and then move up, by that time half your team is on the ground. I will forever maintain that while 2 throwers isn't a necessity, it is huge advantage for the skaven to have, especially on a starting team.
my skaven team have 1 thrower and 3 gunter runner at the beginning and it works well.
A friend of mine (skaven in our league) has started without thrower and made pass with his runner, works also and he went in semi on our last tournament.
so i think that 2 thrower is not necessary.
I usually go with 2 throwers and 2 gutter runners, or sometimes even one gutter runner. A second thrower is cheaper than a gutter runner, and is stronger. Throwers are of course slower, but you only need to get them 4 squares into the opponents side of the field and they can score the next turn. I am not saying that 2 throwers is the way for everyone to go, but i have learned to make great use of it. I think it might have to do with playing against only strong teams. Very few people use elves where i live. So my gutter runners tend to get pounded on. Maybe it has just been chance, but when i use two throwers and two gutter runners, the gutter runners almost never even get blocked because i have enought strong players on the pitch. Lately i have used only one gutter runner with two throwers and the gutter runner only gets blocked about 3 times a game, and scores at least 2 touchdowns. It all boils down to your style of play i suppose, but i can't see myself ever starting a skaven team with only one thrower. And just as a side note, i usually use a starting skaven team of:
Of course thrower are stronger than runners(3 vs 2), but runners have mv 9(vs 7), ag 4(vs 3) ,dodge. So runners are better than thrower no doubt about this fact. In addition, skavens play a course game rather than a pass game.
Even if it safer to pick up the ball with a thrower (8/9 vs 5/6 for runner). After the runner are harder to push down and faster.
