Catching 'accurate' bombs

Post by nouge »

Just a quick question about catching bombs: When the bomb throw is accurate, does the bomb 'reciptient' (if there is one) get the +1 to catch an accurate throw?

It seems pretty plain to me that the bomber is throwing his bombs AT the target rather than TO them, which would tend to indicate the catcher shouldn't get the bonus. But I can't see this actually backed up in the rules anywhere.

What do you guys reckon?

I'd say yes. Every aspect of the bombing is just like a pass including interceptions and fumbles. The ONLY exception I can see is that it is not a pass action. Before someone asks, I would never award SPPs for interceptions or accurate passes that are caught since it is not a pass action.

I dont think there should be a bonus for an accurate bomb "pass". I mean the player is watching a bomb being hurled at his head, so the last thing he is thinking as the bomb nears his head is... <BR>
"Gee what a nice spiral on that football, hey why is there a fuse........."<BR>

I suppose the 'throw bomb' action is very like the 'pass' action what with the interceptions and catches, but still it isn't a pass action. It seems a little silly that because a bomb has been thrown well it should be easier to catch, and harder to catch if it's been thrown 'badly'...

Has anyone seen any actual rulings on this? How do people play it? I've had a look in the Oberwald and I couldn't see anything about it...

I would say that an accurate bomb is +1 to catch. I can´t see anywhere why it shouldn´t and I think it is perfectly logic to. You want to hit the player with the bomb and if you succeed he will have an easier time catching it than if you miss him...

if you throw the bomb to one of your own player, and it was accurate and caught, will it earn the thrower a complettion and 2 SPP? The rules for completion (p 39 in LRB2) do not mention that it HAS to be the ball, that is trown in order to earn comps ....

It might be the +1 to catch coz if the player saw it coming towards him the heroic team member might think to catch it and throw it back (if just to stop it exploding when it hits the ground)
