Thought I should say hi

Post by thebluemonkey »

so, hey

I'm new to bloodbowl, I've played a game here and there and played fumble online which was pretty fun.

A friend of mine works in a gamesworkshop and she just got a copy of bloodbowl so I'm hoping to get into it in a big way.

I was thinking about a skaven team to start with as... you know... they're quick... right?

so I'm after tips, pointers, painting tips, directions etc etc etc

any and all help welcome :P

cheers

and hello again

Welcome Blue Monkey! GW's Diamond in the Rough is now your's to enjoy....

I, too, started with Skaven and found them... thin-skinned.... Nevertheless, they are quite speedy and a good coach can win handedly with them....

Look in the Threads on Team Tactics for skaven methodology and ask questions from what you've read for a better understanding....

And, if you ever feel up to the challenge, take a look at Necromancers: The Arkham Blood Bowl Teams (my site with team manager and lotsa other stuff!)

Hey man!
I'm pretty new to this site as well, and I've found the welcome to be great. Good active community.

Defo go to the site Digger suggested above, its his site, and it has the latest rules, teams and all kinds of useful pdf files to download.

I coached skaven a couple of years ago and found them great fun. The Gutter Runners are going to be your stars - theyre fast and nimble, and nothing like watching them dodge player after player. the team is abit soft though, so watch out for dwarves, chaos, and any bashy teams! But having said that, they are a very good team when played right.

for painting, go to the Fantasy Football Minitures section of the forum. best place for painting and converting tips and help. plenty of posts there for you to look through, as well as ideas. if you cant find what your after, post your own :D

welcome to BloodBowl though mate, its truly a crazy game in a great way. you'll also find it to have a massive active community, something alot of other games lack. more than anything though, its simply helluva fun.

Well, as someone that has been here longer than some, I can reiterate that this is an invaluable resource for advice and strategy information as well as painting and sculpting guides.

Skaven are a team that I would never advise a newbie to start with given that their crunchy factor is high. I would advocate one of Undead/Dwarves/Orcs/Human as a good starting point.

Best of luck and stick with it. I am getting on for 15-16 years in the hobby and it never gets old. unlike Draco......

I feel my stuborness kicking in :P
The more people tell me skaven is a bad place to start the more I want to start with the squishier teams.

What can I say, I play eve online, I like a steap learning curve :D

I've been looking through the painting and sculpting section and I'm blown away.
I'm really not going to be able to do any of these pieces justice in comparison.
Oh well, we'll never get better if we don't reach for thing beyond our means so here I go :P

Cheers for the warm welcome too.
It seems like a nice active group.

Are there many folks from the UK?
Specifically, Brighton

It could be worse. I started with a gobbo team. Didn't do me any harm...

Sure there is, a guy called Grogmir I think.
Search for him in the member list and send him a PM, pretty sure he's local to you.

Skaven is a great choice!
got to stomach getting your face bashed in while, you dance on his with the wining touchdown.

good:
Fast
good scorers
fast player advancement
broad skill selection

bad:
squishy
several kryptonite teams (teams that just smack you around regardless of what you do)

ugly:
After TV 190 it gets down to coach skill and dice
if your opponent is better than you and you both roll average, odds are it will be one or two dice rolls that get you the tie. You would need about 10 rolls to go against your "better" opponent to beat him as his player development has gone a different track

I started with skaven (still learning) and I think're just fine. I found that their speed makes up for all those bad tactics/moves you make as a beginner.
