Be economical or just face the inducements?
We've just started playing blood bowl again after a break of about 13 years (man I feel old).
We've got a league going and my Norse team is doing relatively well. I am a little worried however as my team value is getting quite a bit higher than the other's in the league. so much so that I'm starting to give 300 -400k inducements in some of my games.
You can see the teams here:
http://www.brokenswordleague.com/databa ... tion=teams
my question is: should i start firing some of my skilled up linemen / deliberately not buy new pricey players (i.e a second Ulfwerener) so as to keep my value down, or should i just take the inducements and carry on building up my team (until I have to start paying out spiraling expenses)?
any guidance on this would be appreciated.
Many thanks?

If the handicapsystem works as it is supposed to, it will still give you a slight advantage at winning games.
As for winning games, firing team-members will not help you much unless you fire enough to be approx equal TV as your opponents. The handicapsystem is supposed to scale. And it does a pretty good job of it to my experience, but its also my experience that the higher the TV diffrence, the less effective the handicap system becomes. So if giving handicap at all, giving more is better than giving little.
As for protecting your team, handicapped teams might be given the means to be competetive at winning the game, but most of the time they are less likely to permanently hurt your players than a team of equal TV.
So Im not sure what would be gained by managing TV in this way. Do you feel that you have been suffering from the handicap you have given your opponents? (compared to beeing at equal TV).
On the other hand, if you have players on your team that you know you will retire sooner or later, now might be a good time to do so. Giving away handicap needlessly is never a good thing.
I will be interested to see what the other members of this board have to say about this, do you guys manage your TV much?

Galak 3:16 says "There is a point in time that a player really should read the rulebook."
Thus there is a point in time when you shouldnt.

I have lost and drawn the last two games I played, but I think that was due to my poor playing rather than the inducements.
I suppose it makes sense to have my value spread among my players rather on one star player inducement that can be targeted. As I say, I'm new to this (or at least new to anything above 2nd edition BB) so didn't know the received wisdom on the matter.
so it looks like I'll just keep on growing my team, which is what I wanted to do anyway really:) I have a +1 str mighty blow berserker who I'm rather keen to try Pile On with

I had a flick around the teams in your link, and the obvious problem is that you've played 8 games and others only 1.
You're obviously going to have TV differences.
Perhaps wait until the other teams have caught up a bit, as you need to keep developing your team at this stage.
Also noticed the ridiculous amount of MNG and loners on half the teams

Yes, the league started with just four of us, and six others have joined at various points. Plus some can play more often than others due to life comitments. If we could ensure everyone would be able to play a game each week then we'd still br RPGing probably.
I am aware that if I played less then others would catch up. But I really like playing! When the game comes out on the xbox maybe I'll be able to get my fix elsewhere.
As for the mng and journeymen. We're just learning reall - this is very much a practice league. Anyway, isn't blood bowl supposed to have blood in it?

If you have a number of players who generally sit on the bench the entire game (a 13th Orc or Dwarf), you can cut one or more of them.
If you have given a nearly useless skill to a player (wrestle on your cathcer/runner), inflating his team value but doing little to help his true value, you might consider cutting him.
If one of your players has wracked up enough injuries to be a liability rather than an asset (stat decreases are especially bad), cut him.
In no other instance would I cut players.

Our perpetual ladder league encourages multiple teams... and maybe that's what you should consider: idle your powerhouse and play a second, new team until folks start catching up....
You might find another, more pleasing playstyle... or just that needed spice of football life...!

Re: Be economical or just face the inducements?
i found my tv went WAY out of control INSANELY fast when most of my mates in our open league where around 130 to 140 i was at 200,(Brawl-Starrs) it didn't just happen to me three or four ohers in the league had the same problem ,but i got bored of playing the same teams over and over so i started a second team very late (Darkwood Hawk), they took off like they had a rockit clenched in the arse cheeks! they are now joint top in the league with the highest t.v. (my plan did not work.)
so when i was put in charge of the league i bumped up the little guys. (if i have to suffer everyone does.)
if there is a team value diffrence of 300,000 or more the lower team get a bonus MVP, and for every 300,000 diffrence, so if a team of 100tv go up against a200tv then the 100tv team will get FOUR mvp's that game. three bonus one normal.
also if a team pays expences they pay the diffrence to their oponent. so if the same team of 100tv v's 200tv then the big team would pay 20,000gp in expences as normal but the small team will gain the 20,000gp from the big team. but if it where a 175tv team v's 200tv then they would gain only 10,000gp but the big team would still pay the whole 20,000gp.
it rewards the little guy for being brave.
