I think that was actually his point. Skills arent necessarily worth their official pricetag.Craigtw wrote:You cannot make a fair comparison between a team where every player has two skills which are perfectly complimenting to a BG with two skills that are relatively useless on him. I mean why not say that you only pay 10K more to give snotlings Multiple Block and Break Tackle?

In a cost free world, I think the blitzer is an awesome piece. One of the reasons I played Slann and bought the minis.
In practice, he is all bloat! But in a fun way. I don't mind the value for money thing, but I do mind the constraints on a starting team and how hard they are to replace.
If I were re-working Slann, I'd give the catchers a 10k price hike and give blitzers a 10k price drop. Same overall team cost, but makes the blizers friendlier.
However, as this is unlikely to happen (Especially given how well they have been performing) then we live with what we have.

As an aside, I find it interesting that GAS access is considered to be taboo without a negatrait, but perhaps one can consider the Slann blitzer to have a 20k cost negatrait on him
Also, there are three great blitzer builds which actually seem OK in cost to me:
1) Block, Mighty Blow, Piling ON (next can be dodge, side step, stand firm, tackle, etc.)
2) Wrestle, Strip Ball, Tackle (next can be dodge, side step, guard, fend...)
3) Block, Guard, Side Step (next should be dodge, but Pro also works.
The point is, most really good blitzers really peter out in potential at high skill levels unless they get some doubles or stat increases. I think the Slann blitzer can be worth his cost almost to legend level (although would the team be too bloated to carry him?)
It's interesting to me, and the blitzers therefore end up as the grail in my Slann experience (Thus satisfying my Brettonian urges

I understand what he is saying, but the argument is screwy. He is comparing the usefulness of VLL and Leap on a slann to the usefulness of Strong Arm and Diving Tackle to a minotaur. Oranges and Lemons..... (say the bells of St. Clements)SillySod wrote:I think that was actually his point. Skills arent necessarily worth their official pricetag.

Heh, easy now everyone....
My point was that one poster said that the Slann linemen were a HUGE value, and I disagreed, pointing out that while you may be getting some skills at a "discount", unless they are skills that you'd actually pick/use all the time, it's going to contribute to bloat (like horns).
Slann are fun, look to be balanced, and hey, if their dice are rolling well, that's a damn tough team to stop, on offence AND defense. Are they underpriced? No. Are they a top-tier BB pick, along with Dwarves, Orcs, and others? No. Fun? Yes.
Ikterus - You posted a guide. If people wanna comment on the guide in that thread, they will. Coming into THIS thread and whining for feedback in bold text is not gonna win you the friends (or comments) you're obviously looking for. Enuf pls, K?

Friends I have, but apparantly you're not one of them?

Wining? Well, that's your interpretation. I didn't use bold text to offend anyone but to get attention. The thread was semi-hijacked, and as being the one who started the thread I wanted the discussion back on track.
My goal is to have the Playbook finalized as soon as possible and so far I haven't got any feed back on the last updated version. That might be because it's perfect though!

So if you want to continue discussion on the Slann build in general and it's right to excist in the current form, go ahead and do it, but not in this thread.

So, Funky Sultan, what do you think of the playbook?

Funksultan, please bear in mind that Ikterus has a point, constant commenting in this thread will have the ffect of devaluing what is actually a fine piece of work that benefits the community.
Ikterus, I will lock this thread if you want me to, I would suggest you open a thread for feedback and we can transfer all of this there. I can unlock this for you to up[date if required.
