Throw Team-Mate Turnovers

Post by nouge »

Hi all,

I've been having some trouble figuring out what causes a turnover in regard to TTM and what doesn't (guess what team I've just started playing for the first time).

There are four things that can happen that cause a player to fall over (which normally causes a turnover) with TTM:
(1) A failed Always Hungry roll
(2) A fumbled throw (thrown player falls over in starting square)
(3) A throw player hits another player (both fall over)
(4) A thrown player lands badly

Of these, the LRB specifically says that (1) & (4) are not turnovers unless the throw player had the ball. But what about the other two?

It seems fair enough that (2) a fumbled throw should result in a turnover, and normally I would presume by the letter of the rules that striking another player would also (since there is no caveat to say specifically that it doesn't). However, the fact that you can fall over when you land and not cause a turnover seems to indicate that it shouldn't matter whether you hit another player or not... what do you guys think? How have you interpreted this when its come up?

My understanding is that 1 and 4 are not turnovers. 2 and 3 are. I wish the rules would just say that Throw TeamMate never causes a turnover unless the thrown player has the ball ... would make the whole thing a LOT easier.

It'd be sweet if they'd rule that.

I guess on a literal reading of the rules that is the only conclusion to be reached. It certainly seems strange - and a readl pitty given that most of the strategic advice I have read on the net seems to advocate throwing your players at enemy cages...

I guess option 3 is only a turnover, if the thrown player hits and knocks over a player on your own team, not if he hits an opponent.

Sorry, I should have made myself clearer: by 'throw at the cage' I meant throwing in the general area of a cage in the vain hope that an inaccurate throw would scatter onto somebody.

Guess it's not a valid tactic, although interestingly most of the people who voted here judge hitting an enemy player as not being a turnover, even though the rules don't specifically say this.

I voted that it's not a turnover, and that's probably what most people at BBC thought as well since that's what we put in the Oberwald.
