Skaven for Flamebowl
Well, time to get some advice on my powergaming lineup for this years Flamebowl! Thats right, Flameon Team B are powergaming in a conserted effort to not finish a team tourney last!
After reignighting my love for the ratties during the recent Waterbowl League, im bringing them to the Flamebowl. Heres what ive got so far:
1 x Rat Ogre - 150k
2 x Storm Vermin - 180k
4 x Gutter Runners - 320k
5 x Linerat - 250k
3 x Rerolls - 180k
Total - 1080k
Skills:
Rat Ogre - Juggernaught (3)
Gutter Runner - Horns (4)
Gutter Runner - Big Hand (4)
Gutter Runner - Wrestle (3)
Gutter Runner - Wrestle (3)
3 points left over.
Any thoughts? Any glaring mistakes im making?

What would you drop to get it in? As its a 4 point skill?
Horns off the gutter runner? would still leave me with 3 points to play with.

Re: Skaven for Flamebowl
I'd take Strip Ball over Horns.
Especially as you have 2 Wrestle Runner for the Sure Hands ball carriers.

Re: Skaven for Flamebowl
Well ive swapped out Horns for Strip Ball. Ill give it a go, though ive never used it previously and especially not on a Gutter Runner! Still leaves me with 3 skill points to play with. So im contemplating upgrading one of the Linerats to a Thrower and giving him Accurate. Cant really see anything else of value to do.

Re: Skaven for Flamebowl
Zoggy, if you are going for a thrower, why don't you give him Big Hand instead of the GR and then with your remaining 3 points, you have some options for your left over GR:
3 points:
+1 MA - MA10 GR, definitely a huge target, but makes the one turner a lot easier
Sidestep - always a pain in the arse, but not as effective without block
Dauntless - for those tricky situations where you have to blitz your way out of trouble
2 points:
Jump Up - extra irritation
Fend - stops nasty opponents following up
Catch - for receiving in the back field
Extra Arms - as with catch. Makes the catch easier, but with catch you get the reroll attempt
+1 AV - gives you an extra chance to stay alive
1 point:
Pass Block - a shot at the interception
*Edit - if you want to give your thrower pass (3 points), you could either have a naked GR or maybe give him kick? I wouldn't normally have kick on a GR, but it is a good skill for your team to have.

Re: Skaven for Flamebowl
Well i returned from the Flamebowl with a 2/2/2 record! Which is what i always aim for at a tourny, because im just not that good lol! Skillwise i took:
Rat Ogre - Juggs
Storm Vermin - Stripball
Gutter - +mv
Gutter - Big Hand
Gutter - Wrestle
Gutter - Wrestle
In hindsight, SB on the vermin was not a good choice. I had a couple of chances to use it, but not very often! Wrestle was fantastic though, it helped to break the ball free on several occasions, however, two of them was to many! I think dropping SB from the vermin and putting it on one of the Gutters is the better option!
Id also like to say..........MOVEMENT 10 IS OVERRATED!
i had several attempts at the one turner, however i couldnt pass the spuds check over the line, even with a reroll! In all seriousness, for 3 points its an absolute bargain on a gutter runner, i found he definately drew a lot of attention, so rarely fielded him on defence, unless i had to!
Finally, ive got to admit, for any future tournaments i dont think i will be taking a Rat Ogre. I feel he is extremely expensive for what he does, and there is so much more you can get for the 150k he costs!

Re: Skaven for Flamebowl
I love my rat ogre. I don't think you get much more by dropping him, the extra block player is nice and the 14th man is nice, but neither adds a new facet to the team. Without the rat ogre I think you’ve just got slower, less agile wood elves, albeit with a bench of reserves (who are crap).Zoglug wrote:Finally, ive got to admit, for any future tournaments i dont think i will be taking a Rat Ogre. I know sometimes he can ruin everything, get dragged of position and fail a crucial roll, but when he doesn’t do any of those things he’s an absolute brute. If you keep him near S3 players who can free him up to prevent him being marked and blitz as often as possible you can minimize some of those downsides, and get 4-6 block dice and mighty blow on people, and if you can men up with rats you should be sitting pretty.

Re: Skaven for Flamebowl
Maybe thats where im going wrong! I still take both Vermin with the Rat Ogre, so only have 12 players (cant take less than 3 re-rolls!). Maybe i need to give him 1 more outing but only taking 1 Storm Vermin. He just seemd to fail at the most crucial of moments! I learnt my lesson not to lead off with the Rat Ogre. But when i needed him to blitz, not to knock players over, but to end up tying a pew people up he would fail! I dunno! Its what i love about BB though, everyone has a different opinion!
It wont be at the Waterbowl though, im leaving the Rat World behind for a short while! HE or Lizzies for me, depends if i can pick up a Lizzie team
