Waterbowl 2010

Post by Zoglug »

Yes i am starting early! I need to ha ha ha!!! I need some practice :D

After having amazing fun with Skaven at the Flame Bowl, and in the Waterbowl Premier League, i want to try something different. I have narrowed it down to three teams and am looking for some advices on the teams and the the skills and the rosters, skill set is as follows i believe:

1) 5 x normal skill, 1 x double
2) 4 x normal, 1 x double, 1 x +1 MA
3) 5 x normal, 1 x +1 AG
4) 4 x normal, 1 x +1 ST

Lizardmen:

1 x Kroxigor – 140k
5 x Saurus – 400k
6 x Skink – 360k
3 x Re-roll – 180k
FF2

Skink - +ag
Saurus – 3 x Block, 1 x Break Tackle

or

Kroxigor – Block
Saurus – 3 x Block, 1 x Break Tackle
Skink – Sure Hands

High Elf:

2 x Blitzers – 200k
4 x Catchers – 360k
1 x Thrower – 90k
5 x Linemen – 350k
2 x Re-rolls – 100k

Linemen – 1 x Guard
Catchers – 2 x Block
Blitzer – 1 x Tackle
Lineman – 2 x Dodge

Orcs:

1 x Troll – 110k
4 x Black Orcs – 320k
4 x Blitzers – 320k
1 x Thrower – 70k
1 x Lineman – 50k
1 x Goblin – 40k
3 x Re-rolls – 180k
FF1

Troll – Block
2 x Black Orc – Block
2 x Black Orc - Guard

So what are peoples thoughts and what would you take?

cheers

Zog

I am taking either Humans, Dark Elves or Ogres.

Depends on how much I want to be beaten over the weekend I suppose.

You have 1) down wrong, it's 4 x normal skill, 2 x double

Leipziger in the WB thread wrote:Geoff and I discussed the rules pack last week and the pdf will be available sometime this week.

IIRC the only changes are that we are tweaking skill set 1, so it is 5 normal and 1 double (rather than 4 + 2), goblins will have bribe access and we are going to use the newest LRB.
Which is a shame for me, I thought I had my roster all planned out and everything. Back to the drawing board!

+Stats suddenly look all the sexier, depending on what you fancy running.

As for the OP, I think the HE roster is spot on, but as for skills, I'd probably look at something with a Guard Catcher for pace, perhaps a Leader and certainly more Dodge on fast things. Going to need more than 2 rerolls with AV8 Elves, any which way you can cram them in. :)

Hmm, id never even thought of leader for the third re-roll, ive kind of just always played them with 2 (the odd occasion i have played elves) and maybe thats why i suffer so much with them!!!

Catcher - Guard (double), 2 x Dodge
Thrower - Leader
Blitzer - Dodge
Blitzer - Tackle

Im tempted by the above (after pgoo's advice!) Would have been nice for a second double to take another guarder but thems the breaks i suppose! Got to admit, for some rosters, +ag and 5 normal skills is certainly very appealing!

you have 2 doubles on the second lizard roster

block on the krox and sure hands on the skink, that isn't possible right?

AG4 skink would be nasty though!

Cheers GD, i thought sure hands was a normal skill for a skink! I shall amend that once i get home and take a look what else to go with!

:D

I think Orcs are out of the reckoning, its down to HE or Lizzies! Hmm, maybe ill get a few practice games in and give both a bash!

For lizards, I'd go:

Krox
6 Saurus, 4 Block, 1 BT
5 Skinks, 1 AG+
3 RR

I know Brendan swears by block across the board and a leader, which allows an extra skink reserve, but I think a BT and an Ag4 gives you a lot more flexibility on both Offence and D. You just have to be really careful with your AG4 guy! Plus, with the new skill sets you have to choose between a bloxigor and a leaderus, which makes the above more appealing, IMO.

I'm probably going Lizzies myself, and I agree with everything Nippy wrote. My Bloxsigor / Leaderus / Apo roster will most likely be switched for some AG4 Stunty crutch / 3rd RR action unless I have a brainwave nearer the date.

+ST in exchange for a double and a normal isn’t very expensive. If the tweak holds and becomes official, I think we’ll see a few more of those taken than we did at the Flame Bowl this weekend (for instance), where it was half of your skills kitty. I didn't take a ST4 WD at the Flame – whereas if I was running WE at the Waterbowl, I don’t think I could strength him up fast enough. I thought 2 doubles Vs. +ST was a difficult choice, not sure it is now.

I think its going to be Lizzies im taking to the Waterbowl! After playing a couple of games and picking up a couple of wins on fumbbl last night i enjoyed what they can (or more likely cant do!). I just need to pick up a team now!

Im going to try out various rosters, if i can get practice games in, Starting with the +ag, 4 x block, 1 x break tackle and see how i go!

Indeed, the +1 AG set is now a no brainer for me on loads of rosters. AG trumps a double.

I think the skill packages are better now.

4 singles and 2 doubles was close to a no brainer before.

I'd like to see the stats on which packages were taken last year.

IIRC:

1st place (Joe) 4 and 2
2nd place (Stick?) 4 and 2
3rd place (Gav) ???
4th place (purdindas) 4 and 2
5th place (Pippy) 4 and 2
6th place (Lucifer) 4 and 2
7th place (?Wightlord) 4 and 2

10th Lycos used 4 and 2 I think with block on his snow troll and extra guard.

And my opponents:

R1 4 and 2 (stick)
R2 4 and 2 (Geoff)
R3 4 and 2 (GORGOROTH)
R4 St+1 (Tritex)
R5 4 and 2 (purdindas)
R6 4 and 2 (mumbojerry)

=no brainer

The 4 normal, 2 doubles i guess was perfect for any team with a big guy! Hence its popularity. It will be interesting to see what effect it has on the skills people take. I think a lot will prefer the +ag now and will +st become the no brainer choice for Woodies?

Stunty teams will feel it as well, with only eing able to block up one of their big guys!

I took 4 and 2 too, and didn’t face a stat iirc (and had me a stinker, not that that proves anything! :P), but I think on the right roster a +stat was considerable. Something where doubles aren't quite is valuable a commodity, like Woodies or perhaps even Orcs (if you don’t hit much with the Troll). On the rest, sure, it was a no brainer.

I don't really mind tipping the scales the other way, but I know a lot of people don't really like +stats. I'd expect a 70/30 split with a stat up under the proposed rules. Substitution of no brainer a for no brainer b?
