Cyanide - no good?

However you play online - Java, Vassal, Email, Cyanide etc - talk about it here.
This is also the place for discussing the various tools for managing leagues, teams and so on.

Cyanide - no good?

Post by Smurf »

I have seen to versions so far and I'm not impressed with either.

PC version.

OK, it's my mate's, he could play this with his 'eyes closed'... really simple, 2 complaints the CPU hardly ever threw the ball or had a sense of urgency.

PSP version

I put it on hard setting because I am a vetran of the game. But still this came up with the most flukey games I have ever seen. It's like the CPU is rolling 2 dice for you and picking the worst. I have seen more 1s then I care to mention on virtually everything, either picking up the ball or simple blocks that result 2 die defender downs. Odds are highly unlikely, coupled with the opponent's ability to virtually succeed on about everything. 3 games in and I have to play skaven, so now as I see this game as suspect I run through a few tries. 1 match had 2 linemen off dead and me unable to get to the ball no matter what I tried.

I chose WE as they are 'supposed to be the easiest'. I thought this way I'll get the hang of the game and choose another. Seriously, the way it is going I might as well switch to the hardest armoured team.

Further not impressed was I could not set up my own defence or offence, you have to select a defence/attack pattern and switch the players around in it.

1st match was against hummies and that was fairly tough, managed to win.

2nd match was against Dwarves who somehow managed to induce: 2 mercs and a Deathroller! Like WTF, won but quickly realising that this is not the board game.

3rd match is against the skaven, these appear to be more nimble than me and heavily armoured, I can knock down the guys over and over again and it me who gets the injuries.

I supposed I'm not used to the format and paranoid about performing actions that may give me a 1 as they appear to crop up far too often over 3 games.

The PSP version takes about 45mins per match and the 4 min timer constantly reminding you to hurry (i don't mind), however it can be difficult to tell which team member is who unless they are very specific.

the game is way too complicated to have expected decent AI, I'm surprised they bothered putting it in at all, it is a multiplayer game at heart

The AI is awful on all versions but it does not cheat.

There have been numerous threads on the cyanide site about this and no one has found any evidence of skewed rolls.

A lot of players are new to the game or haven't played in a very long time so they often blamed the dice when losing was due to their own bad play.

Of course the AI being so awful means that it tries crazy plays and sometimes they do work and the human mind always remembers these over many stupid actions the AI tried and failed.

My impression on playing the AI was that you got better than average dice rolls.

I had an inlikng that the luck factor got skewed more and moretowards the AI the higher the difference in Team values goes. I swear I roll more 1rr1s than is feasible lately as well. Always feels that way though..you remember the crap rolls etc.

And the AI is still usually easy to beat unless you've set ulterior goals ("must score twice with player X so he skills up" for example.)

That's the point... in 2 games I feel lady luck has desserted me with ak-47. I got so wound up in 1 game (which I never do on the table top), that it was dodge away and 5 attempts of picking up the ball I have failed 3 including 1 with a reroll. I don't shy away from a block when needed but in 2 games I have not caused a casualty and the 3rd game had skaven ripping through me, which I thought was odd.

I'm going to give it ago tonight and let you know the results of skaven vs WE... It does feel like you have had to take a treeman instead of playing without one.

Next I am wondering if I have guys missing the match should I take journey men to make up the numbers and keep all my winnings until the team is present again.

3rd attempt at WE vs Skaven... badly hurt player via a rock. 2 skaven badly hurt, tried to score equalising TD but Wardancer failed dodge roll to empty square... go on figure that out.

To play this game I now believe you have to play utmost defence, even in offence. What you can do on the board is not replicated on electronics.

A moan is good, it allows us to air things out.

PSP BB.

Had a game with skaven, where the Skaven injured 4, that is 1 dead and 3 missing next game plus a niggling injury. With an apoth that did not work.

However, found out how to style my own set up, so it will get easier.

Getting how the AI works is unfolding, mainly it lacks urgency which I think is a major handicap, pull a head with 3-4 turns to go and stall. You should win.

Next plan find out how to use certain skills like Leap!

From the Cyanide forum:
SeleniA (Focus rep) wrote: We recently announced that a Title Update was in the work for the 360 version of Blood Bowl but we did not want to communicate its content as long as it was not yet approved by Microsoft.
It has eventually been approved for the North America territory earlier this week. However, its approval and deployment for the EMEA version (Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australia) of the title update has not been granted. We are sadly not in position to resubmit a new version of this update, and therefore it will not be available for these territories.

Rules of Cyanidebowl

1 GFI's fail in inverse proportion to their importance. That TDGFI will fail at least 50% of the time any GFI re roll WILL FAIL
2 Double skulls are normal
3 Loner ALWAYS eats your re-rolls
4 The online version will not work Port errors win all games
5 On the odd occasion that you do get an online game it will be against a 14 year old who will pull dumb moves and accuse you of being a lucky lucky bastard when he fails.
6 Frenchmen will disconnect if they get a turnover in the first turn. or if you score before them. or if you equalise or if you look too competent when you set up (that one is a bit unfair but I stand by the other 5)

Reason: ''
Heff...Keeping the Dwarf (and lego) hate alive
If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.
