Starting lineup for Chaos dwarf team
Hello!
I'm pondering starting a CD team and the following roster looks sensible:
2 bulls
5 CD blockers
4 hobgoblins
3 RR's
20k banked
First purchase would be either apo or the 6th blocker.
Now, if I start the team, I'll likely face advanced teams so I'll get inducements. So, what about starting with:
2 bulls
6 CD blockers
3 hobgoblins
2 RR's + apo
10 banked
As inducements I could buy a third reroll if I get at least 100k. I'd have the apo right away and I'd maximise the chances of getting MVP's on the blockers and bulls. Furthermore, the starting lineup would be much more durable with one less hobgoblin and the apo. I'd decide on the first purchase after seeing how things go with 2 RR's. The mino and a new reroll cost the same anyway.
How's this sound? Anyone have any experiences with only 2 RR's on a starting CD team? I'm usually a strong advocate of lots of rerolls but this time I think it could work with the starting blocking skills.

I like the first. you can always induce an apoth or two. I started my own team like that, bought an apoth, then the last CD, which I was able to do in 3 games (in one evening). Which was ace.
After that the 4th RR. If you want to skill up the bulls, you need to score with them, and with ag2, rerolls becomes important.

I started my CD team exactly as your first example. I would certainly take the three re-rolls as you'll need them early both to pick up the ball and re-roll the enevitable double both down rolls on the Bulls before they get Block.
Also if your getting 100K+ in inducements you can get wandering apothecaries, with 20K banked buying an appoth after game one isn't unlikely (unless like me dispite winning the first game you roll a one re-rolled into a one and only get 20K and have a dwarf die in game two with no apoth...) But buying a re-roll is really expensive, at least 3 games worth of winnings and you might need to replace hobgoblins...
I'd definately go with the first list and have a Apoth/Dwarf 6/replace dead or retired guys/re-roll 4/re-roll 5 purchase strategy.

Re: Starting lineup for Chaos dwarf team
I do guess the first lineup's the way to go as I'd definitely want to get the third reroll sooner rather than later after start anyway. I guess the two rerolls would not allow me to try to score with the bulls. Even though I'd have a better chance of getting MVP's on either the blockers or the bulls, that could be countered by the fact that I'd be forced to score with just the hobgoblins. Buying the 6th blocker and the apo cost less than the reroll too.
But I've never induced a wandering apo and I don't intend to start now. And looking at costs the extra reroll is better value as an inducement for the CD team. The reroll is 70 TV whereas the apo is 50 TV so the difference is smaller for the reroll. The low cost stars for the CD team don't look too great as I don't like getting a saw without a bribe, depending a bit on the opponent of course. Grashnak at 310k is wonderful but hopefully I don't have to look at quite that much in the way of inducements.

Re: Starting lineup for Chaos dwarf team
I've got an article discussing the various options for Chaos Dwarf Starting Rosters that you may find useful.
I personally favour the 4 reroll 1 Centaur given the current prices of the players. Thread on my forum about starting Chaos Dwarfs, where someone else took that advice and found it effective too.

Re: Starting lineup for Chaos dwarf team
I started my chaos team with the 6 blocker, 2 bull, 2 reroll, and apoth version believing that if I started with all my blockers and bulls, I would have the power to live with only 2 rerolls for a while. I was wrong. Hobgoblins are your primary ball carriers and they only have 3 agility and NO skills at the start which makes them pretty bad at their primary job. Also, bulls don't have block which can cause trouble. I had a blocker get killed in my second or third game, plus I wanted to get my minotaur as soon as possible, so it was a really looooong time before I could start getting more rerolls. Those early games were really tough. If I had it to do over again, I'd go with the five blocker/3 reroll setup. I don't like the 1 bull/4 reroll set up because one bull is pretty easy to neutralize. A guy in our league started with that setup and in his first game, the bull got knocked down and fouled and got a -MA injury. The 3 reroll setup is a nice middle ground between the two extremes.

Re: Starting lineup for Chaos dwarf team
I used to start chaos dwarfs with 6 dwarfs and 5 rerolls no bulls or mino/troll
hobbos are pretty good at ball handling if you have plenty of rerolls to spare, not to mention how good 6 dwarfs are at blocking early in a league
2 bulls and less rerolls is easy to neutralise as well, and then you have two of them that can get injured. You didn't mention how he was getting on though a player can get hurt no matter what lineup you take, did he win?
bulls are also cheaper than rerolls, you could lose both bulls but rerolls can't get injured...

I like the 13man startup for a shorter league: 1 Bull 6 dwarf 6 hobs and 3 RR.. 1000k

Re: Starting lineup for Chaos dwarf team
That is also what I start with in a league. If you start with an 11 player roster, you risk getting badly smacked about in your first few games. Purchases are: first the Apoth, then the second Bull. That's the complete roster for me - nice and lean with an underlying TV of just 118.Carnis wrote:I like the 13man startup for a shorter league: 1 Bull 6 dwarf 6 hobs and 3 RR.. 1000k

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

Re: Starting lineup for Chaos dwarf team
For FUN reasons I'd like to get my Minotaur asap.
So I thought a bit of banking would be a solid way to mitigate problems or if things go well then move onto the Minotaur.
Thoughts...?
Chaos Dwarfs x6 = 480K
Bull Centaurs x2 = 220K
Hobgoblins x3 = 120K
Rerolls x2 = 140K
Total = 940K
I've VERY conservative, and even with my current Nurgle Team rarely feel the need for more than 2 rerolls except in the rainiest of days.... a team with NO real skills early on.
I figure with an extra 60K it provides me early on with a Hobgob Mercenary at 70K. So by my second game, barring injuries I can toss out a 12th player.
After than it is a build up to the Minotaur who if used properly can ruin teams
