Puzzled Frenzy

Post by Dave »

Hi

If a player with Frenzy starts his turn standing next to an opponent. Does he have to make a block or not??

I'd like to hear your interpretation of the rules of frenzy on this matter: When a frenzied player POWs an opponent off the pitch, does he still have to follow up to stand next to the sideline?

Hmmm... The OBERWALD clearly says so, yes, but the LRB2.0 states that the frenzied player has to follow up if he "...pushes back an opponent without knocking them over". Confuses me a bit.
Is the "pushed back and knocked over" result to be interpreted that the player FIRST is pushed (and if this takes him over the sideline then he is beaten up by the crowd rather than by the attacking player) and THEN knocked over?

Seems easy. The frenzying player ALLWAYS has to follow up, if he pushes his opponent over or not.

Dave: Not quite so easy. I repeat: the LRB2.0 states that the frenzied player has to follow up if he "...pushes back an opponent without knocking them over". That's a direct quote.
Or, if you were suggesting that that would be the simplest way to houserule it, then I agree completely.

Odium, you are quoting out of context. You must always follow up. If you don't knock the opponent over you must throw a 2nd block.
Frenzy (General Trait)
A player with Frenzy must always follow an opponent up if they push them back. In addition, if a frenzied player pushes back an opponent without knocking them over, then they must follow up the opponent and then throw another block at them, which is worked out using the normal rules. Frenzy is not used with secret weapon attacks or any other kind of attack other than a straightforward normal block on one opponent! Note that these changes mean that a frenzied player can now only throw ONE additional block per team turn, no matter what the result of the second block. Also note that if the second block pushes the opposing player back then the frenzied player must still follow up.

If the frenzied player is taking a Blitz action and runs out of normal movement, he can stop attacking (ie, he does not have to throw the additional block), although he can Go For It to throw the block if you want him to – assuming he still has go for it squares left of course.

Oh! That's right, I had missed that first sentence. That clears it all up. Thank you for your patience.

I just don't get how can a frenzy player follow out the pitch....
Following is moving the attacking player to the square left empty by the attacked player, right?
So if player A is on the sidelines and a frenzy pushes him out of bonds the frenzy player follows to the sideline square, end of story. There isn't any player there to the frenzy make a second block, because as soon as a player is pushed out of pitch he isn't there anymore...

I just don't get it... but I've seen so many threads about this... there must be something!!! :o

You are right the Frenzying player will not follow the opponent into the crowd (although some Leagues House Rule this to allow SPPs!).

The issue is that if you do Block your opponent into the crowd, the player with Frenzy must follow up and be next tot he sideline - hence he can easily be pushed into the crowd on your opponent's next turn.

F = frenzied player
O = opponent
x = final position

So F blocks O - pushing him back to x. Then he makes the 2nd Block, pushing him out of bounds. F must follow up to x. This obviously leaves F vulnerable to being pushed out of bounds himself.

Ian,

I like that example, can you clarify where O could go if he had sidestep?

Also when does O get placed? Before or after F decides to follow up?

Thanks anyone that can answer this.
