Getting Into BB

Post by 01spearingw »

Hi.. I've been addicted to the Blood Bowl PC game and am looking to get in to BB properly in about a fortnight as then money wont really be a problem, neither will be finding the time to paint. Though i don't really want to do this unless i have people to play, i'm not that bothered about a league as such at the moment as i would want to get the hang of the rules 1st, though i'm not against that option, as long as people have patience dealing with a dim-wit :)

I would bring this idea up at the GW i play at (Oxford St.) but i don't think the specialist games are a priority, and if i could drum up enough interest from other gamers there, i think we would have to find our own venue, though i'll still ask around when i go on Thursday.

I live in London (E1) and don't mind travelling as long as it's easily accessible to me (so hopefully not below the river, ideally around Holloway/Finsbury, Stepney/Mile End/Hackney, Tower Hill/Embankment or Central London) though i don't have a problem travelling a bit further if needed :)

The only problem is, as a uni student, i am away from london regularly and at times for long periods, i'm away every friday til sunday night, and also a fairly long gap between roughly June til mid September, then again at end of Decemeber til mid January, and also 2 weeks over Easter (hence why i want to start in a fortnight, im away from this friday).

I realise this could make things very difficult in terms of a long term league :(, or regular attendance at a club, but if anyone does fancy having me along, and thinks it's manageable, or if anyone else out there around those areas, wants to start along with me, then please let me know i could easily host a small group of 4 or 5 at my house if interest was that good.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any replies or (hopefully) invitations to come along to a group.

Good luck getting some games sorted, not down there myself but know there are plenty in London who do play regularly.

When you're away from London, where are you? We have a group who play in the North East for example?

There is a large league in London called the ECBBL (or "Blackshirts"). Their forum is here. I think they meet in central London on Tuesday evenings and would probably welcome you for casual games or to join a league.

Ah brilliant i'll check that out then :)

And i'm from Northampton originally, but my time is taken up working nights usually, so it'll be easier to play in London but any groups around there are also of interest.

Ah brilliant! The only thing is, i'm a complete beginner.. I've downloaded the 'tournament' rules from the GW website and had a read through, and i'll be buying the standard box set in a fortnight, are there many other newbies there as well?

They are a mixed bunch. The best way to learn is to play good coaches: you should pick up good habits quickly that way.

Well i shall get these rules printed (i've now found LRB6 and the tournament 1's i mentioned) looks like a lot of reading over the next few days.. Then i'll be off down GW to buy this box set in a fortnight, try it out at home, and then hopefully get in touch with somebody from the group and arrange a time for an introductory a**e whooping 8)

[edit] Also if anybody is from the E1 area, near Stepney/Hackney etc i'd be more than happy to invite them round for a game..

N.B: Just be wary, i live with my nan, and she's more vicious than a Bloodthirster when riled :smoking:

If you want the boxset, try giftsforgeeks, it is £40 there instead of £50 at GW.
