I think Reservoirelves solution is fairly simple and straightforward.
Problem is it is too simple. There are times I want to be able to save up for positional if I've been beat up instead of a lineman.

The bank accomplishes the same thing without forcing a team to purchase linemen. CRP rules were all about NOT forcing a coach to make a decision. And while you can see this is still optional .. its not really.

I'd much prefer moving to the Bank than Reservoirelves solution if I was house ruling a league.

A better fix would be to allow any team to hire any number of journeymen.

Eliminate MNG and so many of these journeyman problems would just melt away.

New injury table would be something like:

11 - 36 : BH

41 - 46 : Niggling

51 - 55: Player suffers -1 to highest of MA or AV (if equal coach chooses)

56 - 58: Player suffers -1 to highest of ST or AG (if equal coach chooses)

61 - 68: Player suffers effects from both the 51/55 AND 56/58 results.

For example a Human Lm that 'died' would become a 6 3 2 7 player.

MNG are just a bizarre addition to the game that cause more trouble than they are worth. Simply for the effect they have on teams that aren't balanced in the first place they should be taken out of the rules and replaced with something better. I am not suggesting that what I have suggested is that, but it works for me.

But I like MNG.

Still, we have a lot of potential fixes now: I think this calls for a new poll.

If you don't think they are good enough then don't take them, and use the inducement money you get instead on something worthwhile.
Assuming you're the underdog.
Well you may not know since you pick journeymen during post-game, not pre-game. Even so if you think a journey skink isn't worth it, then you'll stop your opponent getting 60k of inducements.

The thing is that if you're right around your opponent's TV, that Journey-Skink may well be free. If your 10 men are between -20k and -40k vs. the opponent, for instance, there's zero cost to taking the eleventh man.

I think those who have a problem with journeymen play in leagues with fixed schedules, so they know who they are gonna play next and can plan accordingly. (Correct me if I'm wrong?)

Now if people are whining that journeyelves are too good, then I suggest they play in an open (bashy) league where elf players are likely to come up against a bash team when needing journeymen. Yeah, AG 4 journeyelves are a damn site better than a snot or zombie, but if you need journeymen, then you've only 11 players and if you've 11 players, it only takes 1 failed KO roll or a CAS to be a man down and in my experience, once you lose players, you often lose more players. (Ok longbeards are possibly still a problem as an 11 man dwarf team can easily end the game with 11 players, although if they lose players they are in more trouble than quicker teams so I don't think it's a huge problem).

If people play in scheduled leagues (which is itself a houserule!) then journeymen may need to be "fixed", in open leagues, they don't.

This is my situation exactly.
