official call on player activation-deactivation?

Post by Duce »

Hey,

I'm curious if there is an official call on when a player is considered deactivated after their move, and if they may be moved back to the square to allow movement of another person, say for example to move up to block, or moving out of a tackle zone without realising and then being told and moving the player back before any dice are rolled.

thanks.

there is no ruling for this.

generally, if you throw dice you cannot call back your move, but it largely depends on what you and your fellow players are accustomed to.

It's a matter of convention between players. Like many sports, BB is as reliant on conventions as on rules.

Some players are strict, and do not allow actions, or parts of actions (e.g. specific squares of movement) to be "taken back". These situations are more likely in tournaments, which seems appropriate.

I go with the flow. If my opponent wants to be strict, I accept that. I generally am pretty lax, I allow whole actions to be taken back by my opponent, sometimes I may invite this. But if my opponent is being strict with me, or does not seem to be playing in a very sporting spirit, I may be strict with him at the appropriate moment.

As a general convention, as long as no dice have been rolled, and the next action has not been completed, I will allow a whole action (or parts of it) to be "taken back". In league matches, I will allow multiple actions to be "taken back" if my opponent asks nicely, and no dice have been rolled. As you may have guessed by now, we have a very friendly league, with no beards.

I will always allow the nature of an action to be called after a player has started moving, provided no dice have been rolled (for example, a player starts moving, but the coach forgot to call Blitz, Pass, Hand-Off or Foul).

I try to be more strict on myself, although I do not always succeed!

as a side note
say the player had a neg trait that required a roll (bonehead)
the player has to make the roll
you can gently make the player go back after he has done an action (say a block) and make the forgotten roll then making the player remake the block if the forgotten roll was successful.
We just play make the forgotten roll (and if successful) all other actions taken (before the forgotten roll) still stand

"Dave activates his ogre, blocks, follows up ect. then he works his catcher and you go Dave you forgot to roll Bonehead for the Ogre ..."
