Small and Sturdy
Hi,
it seems that all the teams have associated weak strength with weak armour.
All AV8 players have at least ST3
All ST2 have AV7 or worse
Was there ever a concept team of ST2 (or 1?) with no Stunty and at least AV8 if not 9?
That means the team would keep most players on the pitch but would spend time on the floor, which would make an opponent cringe.
I don't think it would overpower the team and it might bring something funny into play.
Strong Resilient player: 4/2/2/9, Thick Skull, Stand Firm GS (AP) maybe... 60k
Or give them Jump Up as well and make them 70k.
As tough as a dwarf, won't buldge, but no block and lower ST...
The rest of the positional would make the team. If you make the team with only low ST players, and no big guy, you might even give them AV10.
Call them Rock Gnome or something like that, and make them the tough as nail Tier2 team.
This sort of team is walked all over by Goblins, rats and elves, but they could present a challenge for tough teams like dwarves and orcs, who find their Mighty Blow and Guard completely useless for once.
Claw might still work mind you.

Re: Small and Sturdy
Here's a tentative team
1-16 Lino rock Gnome 4/2/2/10 Stand Firm, Thick Skull, Jump Up 70k GS (AP)
0-2 Blitzer Rock Gnome 5/2/3/9 Thick Skull, Block, Tackle 80k GS (AP)
0-2 Rock Elemental 3/3/1/10 Thick Skull, Stand Firm 80k GS (AP)
0-1 Dynamite Miner Gnome 4/2/3/10 Stand Firm, Thick Skull, Bombardier, Secret Weapon 60k AP (GS)
Reroll 50k
Too weak?
I know Dauntless and Block would come handy, and this is a team that spends much of its time on the floor, but it plays like no other right?
Typical Starter Rosert
7 Lino 4/2/2/10 Stand Firm, Thick Skull, Jump Up 490k
2 Blitzers 5/2/3/9 Thick Skull, Block, Tackle 160k
2 Elemental 3/3/1/10 Thick Skull, Stand Firm 160k
3 rerolls: 150k
40 k banked for the bomber asap.
Total 1M
I know the team will EVENTUALLY grow into a great team, over a long period of time, but it will be fouled and hit so many times on the way there that it will struggle to keep all its players.

Re: Small and Sturdy
I've proposed a bunch of Gnome teams. Nobody seems to respond well to them.
Part of what you're seeing is this:
A) If ST2 or less, then Dodge to start (except Slann Catchers, because "no starting power skills" is part of the team's schtick).
B) If Dodge to start, then AV7 or less.
Thus, by hypothetical syllogism,
C) If ST2 or less, then AV7 or less.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

I can see why B) but by challenging A) you bring a new concept to the table without writing new rules.

A gnome team seems like it should be a fun cocept, we've got a nice range of miniatures we can use for them after allmattgslater wrote:I've proposed a bunch of Gnome teams.

They might even make a nice candidate for strength 2 non stunties. I wouldn't give their linemen over 8 AV though and 10 is far to high. I'd also drop the rock elementals in favour of machines, I am thinking of the miniatures there though!

Re: Small and Sturdy
giving a bombardier access to passing skills on normal is a little dangerous. first skill, hail mary pass. you now have a mortar.
other than that, theyre a nice choice. though 80k for a blitzer? theyre effectively a dwarf lineman (70k) at +MA and -STR. There's no way that that trade off should result in +10k value.
the team also needs a runner/catcher/ball handler type as they only have 2 players with ag3. maybe:
0-2 Gnome Surveyor 6/2/3/8 Thick Skull, Jump Up, Sure Hands 80k GP (AP)
Although is is perhaps a bit close to the dwarf runners/team. How would you differentiate? why would someone choose this team instead of a dwarf one?

Re: Small and Sturdy
How about
6/1/3/9 Stunty, Dodge, Jump Up A/G (P/S)
In fact, how about stunty instead of jump up for the linemen? fluffy as they have good armour, but are squishy as a goblin on the inside. balanced because of ag2.

Re: Small and Sturdy
How about a team of creatures like Terry Pratchett's Nac Mac Feegle?
6 1 3 8 Dauntless, Stunty {G,S}
Maybe a couple of Blitzers with Block/Wrestle. The lack of Dodge makes them pretty fragile, but they have always got the chance to run into the cage and kicking the ball carrier in the nuts.
Hmm, perhaps that team is just too bad. Either Titchy or Dodge might be necessary from the start.

Re: Small and Sturdy
Greyhound, your players are too expensive! -STR makes them a LOT cheaper. They'll also all die as soon as a hint of claw is found.
1-16 Lino rock Gnome 5/2/3/9 Stand Firm, Jump Up 60k GS (AP) (leave thick skull spam to dorfs)
0-2 Blitzer Rock Gnome 6/2/3/9 Dauntless, Block, Tackle 80k GS (AP)
0-2 Rock Elemental 3/4/1/10, Thick skull, Stand Firm 90k GS (AP)
0-1 Dynamite Miner Gnome 4/2/3/10 Stand Firm, Thick Skull, Bombardier, Secret Weapon 60k A (GSP)
Though I'd prefer for Rock elemental:
1/4/1/10, jump up, stand firm

Re: Small and Sturdy
I was trying to play with AV10 players to make a team fairly unique. Yes they are expensive but I think the players wouldn't alternate as often as others.
CLAW is the killer for this team but yes it's not tier 1. It seems that the community is not so keen on high AV low ST players.
As mentioned above if you have low ST then you must have Dodge and AV7.
I don't play enough to really have time to playtest a team when I still have so many other to paint and play so maybe in 10 years time I'll explore the idea again.
